Question Detail
Two trains of equal length are running on parallel lines in the same direction at 46 km/hr and 36 km/hr. The faster train passes the slower train in 36 seconds. The length of each train is ?
- 40 meter
- 45 meter
- 50 meter
- 55 meter
Answer: Option C
Explanation:
Let the length of each train is x meter
Distance will be x+x = 2x
Relative Speed = 46-36 = 10 km/hr
= 10*(5/18) = 25/9 m/sec
Distance = Speed*Time
\begin{aligned}
2x = \frac{25}{9}*36 \\
2x = 100 \\
=> x = 50
\end{aligned}
So length of both the trains are 50 meters
1. A train is moving at a speed of 132 km/hour. If the length of the train is 110 meters, how long will it take to cross a railway platform 165 meters long.
- 7 second
- 7.5 second
- 8 second
- 8.5 second
Answer: Option B
Explanation:
As we need to calculate answer in seconds, so first convert speed into meter/sec.
we know 1 km/hr = 1*(5/18) m/sec
So, Speed = 132* (5/18) = 110/3 m/sec
Distance need to be covered in passing the platform =
Length of train + length of platform = 110 + 165
= 275 meters
Time = Distance/Speed
\begin{aligned}
=> Time = 275* \frac{3}{110} = \frac{15}{2} \\
= 7.5 seconds
\end{aligned}
2. Two trains are running in opposite directions in the same speed. The length of each train is 120 meter. If they cross each other in 12 seconds, the speed of each train (in km/hr) is
- 30 Km/hr
- 36 Km/hr
- 80 Km/hr
- 90 Km/hr
Answer: Option B
Explanation:
Distance covered = 120+120 = 240 m
Time = 12 s
Let the speed of each train = x.
Then relative velocity = x+x = 2x
2x = distance/time = 240/12 = 20 m/s
Speed of each train = x = 20/2 = 10 m/s
= 10*18/5 km/hr = 36 km/hr
3. A train is 360 meter long is running at a speed of 45 km/hour. In what time will it pass a bridge of 140 meter length.
- 20 seconds
- 30 seconds
- 40 seconds
- 50 seconds
Answer: Option C
Explanation:
Speed = 45 Km/hr = 45*(5/18) m/sec
= 25/2 m/sec
Total distance = 360+140 = 500 meter
Time = Distance/speed
\begin{aligned}
= 500*\frac{2}{25} = 40 seconds
\end{aligned}
4. A 270 metres long train running at the speed of 120 kmph crosses another train running in opposite direction at the speed of 80 kmph in 9 seconds. What is the length of the other train?
- 220 meter
- 225 meter
- 230 meter
- 235 meter
Answer: Option C
Explanation:
As trains are running in opposite directions so their relative speed will get added
So, Relative speed = 120 +80 = 200 kmph
= 200*(5/18) = 500/9 m/sec
Let the length of other train is x meter then
\begin{aligned}
\frac{x+270}{9} = \frac{500}{9} \\
=> x+270 = 500\\
=> x = 230
\end{aligned}
So the length of the train is 230 meters
5. How many seconds will a 500 meter long train take to cross a man walking with a speed of 3 km/hr in the direction of the moving train if the speed of the train is 63 km/hr
- 25 Seconds
- 28 Seconds
- 30 Seconds
- 35 Seconds
Answer: Option C
Explanation:
Relative Speed = 63-3 = 60 Km/hr
= 60 *(5/18) = 50/3 m/sec
Time taken to pass the man will ne
\begin{aligned}
500*\frac{3}{50} = 30 \text{ seconds}
\end{aligned}
