    SSC CHSL Exam Pattern

    Thorough study of Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) (CHSL) Examination Pattern and syllabus help to crack the exam easily.  Latest syllabus and examination also help to boost your preparation. CHSL exams are conducted online to select eligible and skilled candidates for the vacant posts in the Central Government Department & Ministries.

    The positions offered under the CHSL exam are Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Data Entry Operator (DEO). This examination is also popularly named in candidates as SSC 10+2 Level Exam.

    SSC CHSL Syllabus

    The detailed SSC CHSL syllabus is given below. It will help you to start your preparation in a right direction. Major subjects are –

    Exam Pattern

    Exam is conducted in three tiers. Candidates have to qualify the first before appearing in the following one – 

    I. Tier 1 – Multiple Choice Questions on above given topics

    II. Tier 2 – Descriptive Exam of 2 hours. The descriptive question will be from quantitative and English and is of 200 marks.

    III. Tier 3 – Typing Skill Test – 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes.

    Online Exam –

    The exam will be of objective type with multiple choices. The questions will be in Hindi and English both for Part I, III and IV.

    Total exam duration will be of 2 hours. There will be total 100 questions. There will also be negative marking of .25 marks for every incorrect attempt. Candidates are advised to complete the exam very carefully.

    For DATA Entry Operators - Skill Test

    The Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on Computer will be checked on the basis of the correct entry of words as per the given passage and the test will be 15 minutes long and printed matter in English with 2000 - 2200 strokes or key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same on the Computer. The “Data Entry Speed” Skill Test would be of qualifying nature. Candidates taking this test, will have to clear it at the prescribed speed on Computer, to be provided by the Commission or the agency authorized by the Commission to conduct such skill test at the Center/venue so notified.

    Candidates scoring minimum qualifying marks in the written examination, may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for this skill test. The Commission can also at its discretion, fix qualifying marks in each component of the written examination.

    For Typing Test 

    Candidates qualifying written test will be asked for the typing test and they can be given in both Hindi or English language as per candidate’s choice. The language choice in the application will be final and no change will be allowed. 

    Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute minimum.

    The speed will be checked on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes. Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 20 minutes extra.

    Candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination, as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for Typing Test. The Commission, at its discretion, fix the minimum qualifying marks in each component of the written examination.
