Communication satellite GSAT-16 successfully launched by India
On 7th December 2014, India's latest communication satellite GSAT-16 was successfully placed in orbit by Ariane 5 rocket. It was launched after being deferred twice due to bad weather. GSAT-16 was launched into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
As per Arianespace statement on its website, "Ariane 5 delivers DIRECTV-14 and GSAT-16 to orbit on Arianespace's latest mission success".

GSAT-16 which has a lift-off mass of 3,181kg, carries total of 48 communication transponders which is largest by a communication satellite developed by the ISRO.
Shiv Sena Joins BJP Government in Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion
On 5th December 2014, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of BJP expanded his his Council of Ministers to include the Shiv Sena, with this Shiv Sena again became an ally of BJP after a breif parting. Total of new 20 new ministers sworned in at Vidhan Bhawan. Out of 20 new ministers 10 were of cabinet rank, five each from Shiv Sena and BJP.
Water help sent by India to Maldives which is facing water crisis
On 5th December 2014, India helped Maldives by sending an IAF transport aircraft and naval vessels carrying a large consignment of water to meet the immediate requirement of over 100,000 people. Maldives capital is facing acute water crisis after a fire in the city's water treatment plant.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj have promised full assistance to the people and leadership of Maldives.
