    Which project Union Cabinet approved to implement - National Hydrology Project

    On 6 April 2016, The Union Cabinet which is chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval to implement of the National Hydrology Project. With a total outlay of 3679.7674 crore rupees, It will be a central sector scheme.

    This Project includes 3640 crore rupees for National Hydrology Project (NHP) and 39.7674 crore rupees for National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC) which is to be taken up in two stages.

    Report says, the NHP will help in gathering Hydro-meteorological data which will be stored and analysed on a real time basis and can be seamlessly accessed by any user at the State/District/village level.

    Earlier hydrology projects covered only 13 States now, the project envisages covering whole India.

    Know About Hydrology Project – 

    •The Project is to improve reliability and accuracy of Hydrology and Ground Water data throughout India and to improve access to this information. 

    •The mission is to establish an effective and sound hydrologic database and Hydrological Information System (HIS), together with the development of consistent and scientifically-based tools and design aids to assist in the effective water resources planning and management within each to the implementing ageneses based on sound scientific driven hydrogeological information and models.

    WHO released Global Report on – Diabetes

    On 6 April 2016, WHO (The World Health Organization) released its first Global Report on Diabetes. On 7 April, to mark the World Health Day 2016, the report was released with the theme - Beat Diabetes.

    WHO said 8.5 percent of the world population had diabetes two years ago, up from 108 million, or 4.7 percent, in 1980.

    WHO Director-General Margaret Chan gave the suggestion that – ‘we need to rethink our daily lives: to eat healthily, be physically active and avoid excessive weight gain.’

    Know About Diabetes – 

    •Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period.  Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. 

    •If left untreated, diabetes can cause many complications. Acute complications include diabetic ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma. Serious long-term complications include cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes.

    •Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced.

    Who is appointed as Chairman for NASSCOM for 2016-2017 - CP Gurnani

    On 6 April 2016, NASSCOM (The National Association of Software and Services Companies) declared the appointment of CP Gurnani as its Chairman for 2016-2017.

    CP Gurnani succeeds BVR Mohan Reddy, who served as Chairman of NASSCOM for 2015-16.

    Gurnani is part of NASSCOM’s Executive Council and is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tech Mahindra.

    Know About NASCOM – 

    •The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is a trade association of Indian Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. Established in 1988, NASSCOM is a non-profit organisation.

    •NASSCOM is a global trade body with over 2000 members, of which over 250 are companies from the China, EU, Japan, US and UK. NASSCOM's member companies are in the business of software development, software services, software products, IT-enabled/BPO services and e-commerce.

    •NASSCOM facilitates business and trade in software and services and encourages the advancement of research in software technology. It is registered under the Indian Societies Act, 1860.

    Who is named as Iceland Prime Minister - Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson

    Iceland's government got new Prime Minister named Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson. The coalition also decided to hold elections in the autumn.

    The polls were set to take place in the spring of 2017.

    About Sigurdur Ingi Jóhannsson

    •Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson is an Icelandic politician and the acting Prime Minister of Iceland. 

    •He is a member of the Progressive Party.

    •Johannsson, 53, is Agriculture and Fisheries Minister and deputy leader of the Progressive Party (PP).

    Odisha Government has launched which project - Adarsh Vidyalaya Project

    Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya (OAV) Project launched by Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik, at Sasan Ambagaon village in his home constituency Hinjli in Ganjam district.

    The main of this project is to provide modern schools facilities on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas in the underdeveloped rural areas of the state.

    Know About Adarsh Vidyalaya Project – 

    •Along with free uniforms and books, these schools will provide free education also from class 6 to 12.

    •In future they are planning to have hostel facility too and will be affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

    •Report says, in the first phase, 100 of these schools started functioning on 5 April 2016. Also one Adarsh Vidyalaya will be set up in each of the 314 revenue blocks of the State.
