UAE-based Indian teen Kehkashan Basu wins - Children's Peace Prize
Among Important International Current Affairs, Kehkashan Basu who is a 16-year-old UAE-based Indian teenager has won the International Children’s Peace Prize for her work towards climate justice and combating environmental degradation.
However, the award was conferred to her by Bangladesh’s Nobel peace prize winner Mohammad Yunus at a ceremony held in The Hague. Also the teen in her award-winning speech stressed on the importance of continuing the fight against climate change and focusing on creating a more sustainable future.
Kehkashan Basu’s speech comes not long after the new President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump revealed his decision of withdrawing the U.S from a global agreement on climate change.
ISRO to launch how many satellites in one go in 2017 - 83 Satellites
Among Important National Current Affairs, in January 2017 the Indian Space Research Organisation which is also known as ISRO will launch 83 satellites into space in one go, aboard a single rocket.
However, this announcement was made during the proceedings of the lower house, Lok Sabha on 30 November 2016. Amoung the 83 satellites, 3 belong to India while the other 80, weighing 500 kg belong to five foreign nations including Israel, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and the United States of America.
Also the launch of these foreign satellites by India is a part of a commercial agreement signed between these countries and Antric Corporation Ltd, which is the commercial arm and Public sector undertaking of ISRO.
