India ratifies which agreement - Paris Climate Agreement
Among Important National Current Affairs, on the occasion of 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi India has finally ratified the Paris Agreement on climate change.
However, India’s Permanent Representative to UN, Syed Akbaruddin handed over the Instrument of Ratification which was signed by President Pranab Mukherjee to the United Nations in New York.
After this signature, India became 62nd country to ratify the agreement.
Do You Know –
• These 62 countries including India also are responsible for almost 52% of Green House Gases (GHG) emissions.
• Also the Paris Agreement on climate change will enter into force one month after 55 countries that account for 55% of global GHG emissions ratify the agreement.
On 3rd October which day has been observed across the world - World Habitat Day
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 3rd October 2016 The World Habitat Day was observed across the world with the special theme Housing at the Centre.
However, the 2016 World Habitat Day campaign main aim is to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing for all in urban areas, towns and cities.
Do You Know –
• Access to adequate housing is known to be a global challenge, which is growing fast with urbanization. So, around one quarter of the world’s urban population is continues to live in slums and informal settlements.
• However, an increasing number of urban dwellers, especially the poor and vulnerable groups (women, migrants, persons with disabilities and HIV, elder, youth and LGBT) are living in precarious conditions, addressing their housing needs informally, lacking access to basic services and living space, isolated from livelihood opportunities and vulnerable to forced evictions or homelessness.
Indian-origin Kiara Nirghin wins - Google Science Fair prize 2016
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 1st October 2016 Indian-origin South African girl Kiara Nirghin won the Google Science Fair prize 2016.
However, she also won grand prize of 50000 US dollars scholarship for using orange peel to develop a cheaper super-absorbent material that helps soil retain water.
Kiara Nirghin who is a Grade 11 student at St Martin’s private school, she did a project titled No More Thirsty Crops which was aimed at tackling the severe drought plaguing South Africa.
Please Note - Her solution to the problem of drought uses orange and avocado fruit peel, are normally discarded.
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to be Chief Guest on - 2017 Republic Day
Among Important International Current Affairs, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be the chief guest for the 68th Republic Day celebrations on 26 January 2017.
However, in this regard, announcement was made the by Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesman Vikas Swarup in New Delhi after the crown prince accepted invitation.
