Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag takes over as new Army Chief
On 31st July 2014, General Dalbir Singh Suhag took charge as India's new army chief. He will be succeeding General Bikram Singh, who has retired. Lt. Gen.

59-year-old Lt. General Suhag, a Gurkha officer who had participated in the 1987 Indian Peace Keeping Force operation in Sri Lanka.
He will be serving on this top post till 31st Dec 2016.
He is an alumnus of Sainik School, Chittorgarh who joined National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla in Pune in 1970. He holds the distinction of commanding 8 Mountain Division in Kargil from October 2007 to December 2008. He became Vice Chief of Army Staff in December 2013.
Theodore Van Kirk, Last surviving airman of Hiroshima bombing died
Theodore Van Kirk, the last surviving crewman of the US plane that dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, Japan during the World War II died on 28 July 2014. He was 93. Kirk also known as Dutch died due to natural causes at the Park Springs Retirement Community in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Theodore Van Kirk was the navigator of the Enola Gay, a B-29 Superfortress aircraft that dropped the world's first atomic bomb - over the Japanese city of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. The bomb killed 140,000 in Hiroshima. VanKirk was 24 years old at the time.
South Africa legend Jacques Kallis announced retirement from all formats of International cricket
On 30th July 2014, Jacques Kallis, the South African all-rounder announced his retirement from all-formats of International cricket, which is important among Sports Current Affairs. In December 2013, he had announced his retirement from Test cricket after playing the Test series against India. But he would continue to play further for club cricket like Sydney Thunder and Kolkata Knight Riders.

He ends his ODI career with 11579 runs in 328 matches with 17 centuries and 86 fifties at an average of 44.36. He played 25 T20s, scoring 666 runs with five fifties. He is the only South African batsman with over 10,000 runs in Tests and ODIs. Kallis had played his final Test in December 2013 against India in Durban, finishing with 13,289 runs in 166 matches with 45 centuries, 58 fifties at an average of 55.37. His last T20 was in October 2012.
Sabine Lisicki sets record of fastest serve in Women's Tennis
Sabine Lisicki German professional tennis player, has broken Venus Williams's record for the fastest serve in women's tennis. The world No. 29 recorded 131mph – two miles an hour faster than Williams achieved at the 2007 US Open.
Lisicki set the record during a first-round defeat in the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, US. She hit an unreturnable 131mph serve at 5-5 in the first set against Ana Ivanovic.
