Dissolution of Central Inland Water Transport Corporation Limited approved by - Union Cabinet
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 31st August 2016 The Union Cabinet has finally approved the proposal for dissolution of Central Inland Water Transport Corporation Limited (CIWTC).
On 22nd February 1967, CIWTC was incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 by the Union Government.
However, it was incorporate after government took over the assets and liabilities of the erstwhile River Steam Navigation Company Limited under a scheme approved by the Calcutta High Court.
MoUD and Amar Chitra Katha signs MoU to publish and distribute comic book on - Swachh Bharat Mission
On 31st August, 2016 The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amar Chitra Katha to publish and distribute a special edition of a comic book. The comic book will mainly focus on Swachh Bharat Mission.
Please Note: The 32-page comic book will carry messages pertaining to sanitation and solid waste components of Swachh Bharat Mission.
Which state becomes first state to distribute 2 crore LED Bulbs under UJALA – Gujarat
Among Important National Current Affairs, in the last week of August Gujarat has become the first state to distribute 2 crore LED bulbs under Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme.
Here, the state Gujarat ahs achieved the milestone in only 96 days. Over 42 lakh households have benefitted from the scheme.
The distribution of 2 crore LED bulbs has led to an annual energy savings of 259 crore kWh, which is also equivalent to lighting up 5 lakh Indian homes for an entire year. Besides this scheme, Gujarat has also benefitted from daily CO2 emission reduction of 5000 tonnes.
Who has been appointed as UN Women’s Advocate for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in India - Aishwaryaa R Dhanush
On 29th August 2016, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri have announced the appointment of Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Dhanush as UN Women’s Advocate for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in India.
However, Film director, classical dancer and writer, Aishwaryaa will be seen helping to raise awareness of UN Women’s core messages of gender equality and women’s empowerment across India.
Here, the act will boost the organisation’s efforts to close the gender gap and achieve a more equal world – a Planet 50-50 – by the year 2030.
CRPF decides to appoint which player as Commandant and brand ambassador - P V Sindhu
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 29th August 2016 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), India’s largest paramilitary force, have decided to appoint ace badminton player P V Sindhu as its brand ambassador.
Also, CRPF will bestow the honorary rank of Commandant on the Olympic silver medallist.
However, the force has moved a formal proposal in this regard to the Union Home Ministry. After getting required sanctions, Sindhu will be honoured and presented the rank badges and camouflage combat fatigues of the CRPF at a ceremonial event.
Please Note: A Commandant rank in the CRPF is equivalent to the position of a Superintendent of Police (SP).
