Autism Awareness Day was observed across the globe on - 2nd April 2016

On 2 April 2016, The World Autism Day is celebrated across the world. The theme for the day is Autism and the 2030 Agenda: Inclusion and Neurodiversity.

It is a serious neurodevelopmental disorder that weakens a child's ability to communicate and interact with other children of their age. It includes restricted repetitive behaviours, interests and activities. These issues cause significant impairment in social, occupational and other areas of functioning.

About World Autism Awareness Day :

The World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognised day on the 2nd of April every year, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about children with autism throughout the world.

It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution "62/139. World Autism Awareness Day", passed in council on November 1, 2007, and adopted on December 18, 2007.

It was proposed by the United Nations representative from Qatar, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, Consort of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, and supported by all member states.

World Autism Day is also one of only four official health-specific UN Days. The day itself brings individual autism organizations together all around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment, and overall awareness for those with the disorder and looking for help

Babu Bharadwaj passed away, he was a - Well-known writer and journalist

On 30 April 2016, renowned writer and journalist Babu Bharadwaj died of cardiac arrest in Kozhikode. He was 68 years old.
His famous novel Kalapangalkkoru Grihapadam, has been awarded with the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award in 2006.
He was continuously a part of prominent print and television media in Kerala.

About Babu Bharadwaj –

• Veteran journalist and well-known writer Bharadwaj was born at Chemmenchery in Kozhikode in 1948.
• He studied at Poyilkavu High School, Malabar Christian College, Thrissur Engineering College.
• He also produced a Malayalam movie named Iniyum Marichittillatha Nammal in 1980. It was directed by Chintha Ravi.
• His other famous works include Pravasiyude Kurippukal, Shavaghoshayathra (novelettes), Puppet Theatre (short story collection), Pravasiyude Vazhiyambalangal and Adrushya Nagarangal.

What is the name of the Egyptian author-journalist who is going to receive PEN Award – Ahmed Naji

On 31 March 2016, PEN America declares that it will confer the PEN/Barbey Freedom to Write Award upon imprisoned Egyptian novelist and journalist Ahmed Naji.

This prestigious award will be presented to Naji at Pen America's annual Literary Gala on 16 May 2016 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Along with Ahmed Naji, PEN America will also salute Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling with the 2016 PEN/Allen Foundation Literary Service Award for engendering a love of literature among children worldwide.

About Ahmed Naji –

• Ahmed Naji is the author of three books and a journalist at the state-funded Akhbar al-Adab literary magazine.
• Under the rule of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, he has been a vocal critic of official corruption.
• Naji was charged with violating public modesty after a private citizen complained that an excerpt from Ahmed Naji’s novel The Use of Life published in the state-run literary journal Akhbar al-Adab had given the reader heart palpitations due to its sexual content, in 2015.

Union Government notifies which new rules in 2016 – Bio-Medical Waste Management Rule

The Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016 has been notified by The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change few days before.

The new set of Rules is all set to replace the Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1998.

Know About Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules (BMW) 2016 –

• The ambit of the rules has been expanded to include vaccination camps, blood donation camps, surgical camps or any other healthcare activity.
• Phase-out the use of chlorinated plastic bags, gloves and blood bags within two years.
• Pre-treatment of the laboratory waste, microbiological waste, blood samples and blood bags through disinfection orsterilisation on-site in the manner as prescribed by WHO or NACO.
• Provide training to all its health care workers and immunise all health workers regularly.
• Establish a Bar-Code System for bags or containers containing bio-medical waste for disposal.
