Operation All Out against Bodo militants launched by Indian Army
Indian Army launched Operation All Out against Bodo militants in Assam. Union Govt gave it a go ahead after a meeting of Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi.
As you are already aware that on 23rd December 2014 National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants killed at least 81 tribal people in two districts of Assam, Kokrajhar and Sonitpur.
Indian authorities also mulled coordinated action with armies of Bhutan and Myanmar.
Noted British actor David John Ryall passed away
On 25th December 2014 Noted British actor David John Ryall passed away at the age of 79 years. Role of Elphias Doge in the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows film was played by him.
Film Automata was his last film which was directed by Gabe Ibanez which was released in 2014.
Method to convert Carbon Dioxide into Organic Compound discovered by LSU Researchers
On 19th December 2014 journal Nature Communications published that a research team led by Andrew Maverick of Louisiana State University (LSU) discovered a new method of its kind to convert Carbon Dioxide (CO2) into an Organic Compound.
This method will help to convert carbon dioxide to oxalate that means it will change environmental pollutant into a more useful organic compound.
Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching launched
On 25th December 2014, Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching was launched by Govt. This mission was launched by PM Narendra Modi at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. In 12th five year plan, 900 Crores rupees will be spend on this. This mission will help building a strong professional cadre of teachers by setting performance standards and creating top class institutional facilities for innovative teaching and professional development of teachers.
Foreign Exchange Reserves of India reached 320 billion US dollars
Among the important financial current affairs, Foreign Exchange Reserves of India reached 320 billion US dollars as per the report revealed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data on Foreign Exchange released on 26 December 2014.
It is important to mention here that gold reserves remained unchanged at 18.985 billion US dollars.
Director of the IIT-Delhi Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar resigned
Director of the IIT-Delhi Mr. Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar gave his resignation on 26th December 2014 citing personal issues. He sent his resignation to the Chairman of IIT Board of Governors Vijay P Bhatkar. A controversy erupted in media over his resignation as still two years tenure are left. His resignation was forwarded to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, now this resignation will have now to be approved by President Pranab Mukherjee.
