Which country ranks 130th in 2017 Ease of Doing Business index – India

Among Important National Current Affairs, India has been placed at 130th position among the 190 countries in the recently released World Bank’s ease of doing business index for the year 2017. 

However, the index was released as part of the World Bank’s annual report Doing Business 2017: Equal Opportunity for All. 

Also this report had revised India’s rank to 131 from earlier 130th for the year 2016. Not only this, India has also improved its place by one spot in the 2017 index and its place remained unchanged from the previous original ranking of 130 in the year 2016.

2016 Man Booker Prize won by - Paul Beatty

Among Important International Current Affairs, on 25th October 2016 Paul Beatty became the first US author to win the Man Booker Prize. 

However, he also won the award for his racial satire, 'The Sellout' at a ceremony in London's Guildhall.

This novel tells the story of a young black man who tries to reinstate slavery and racial segregation in a suburb of Los Angeles. 

According to the Chair of the Judges, Amanda Foreman – ‘the book managed to eviscerate every social taboo.’

Here, Beatty was honoured with the prize money of 50000 Euros from the Duchess of Cornwall, a trophy and a designer bound edition of his book.

2016 National Tribal Carnival has been inaugurated by – PM Modi

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 25th October 2016 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated 2016 National Tribal Carnival at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. 

Here, the carnival aims at promoting a sense of inclusiveness amongst the tribals.

However, about 1600 Tribal Artists from the various States/UTs performed carnival parade in their traditional attire during the inaugural ceremony.

Which legendary footballer died recently - Carlos Alberto Torres

Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 25th October 2016 the legendary footballer Carlos Alberto Torres passed away at the age of 72 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

However, Carlos was also known for scoring one of the greatest goals in World Cup history in the 1970 final against Italy.

• Carlos Alberto Torres is a well known Brazilian footballer.

• He was also widely regarded as one of the best defenders of all time.

• In the 1970 World Cup, he captained Brazil national team to victory by scoring the fourth goal in the final, which is considered one of the greatest goals in the history of the tournament.

Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise begins – 2016 Mitra Shakti 

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 24th October 2016 the fourth edition of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise Mitra Shakti 2016 began at Sinha Regimental Centre in Ambepussa, Sri Lanka. 

However, this exercise will continue till 6th November 2016.

Here, the main focus of this edition of the joint exercise is to enhance inter-operability while carrying out Counter Insurgency (CI)/Counter Terrorism (CT) operations under the United Nations Mandate.
