Australian researchers develop world’s first Scanning - Helium Microscope
Among Important International Current Affairs, The world’s first Scanning Helium Microscope (SHeM) have been built by the Australian researchers to examine and find details of materials without disturbing them.
By the team of researchers from University of Newcastle (UON) led by Professor Paul Dastoor in collaboration with researchers from the University of Cambridge, the SHeM was developed.
How SHeM works?
• SHeM which means Scanning Helium Microscope possesses short De Broglie wavelength of the helium ions and very high source brightness.
• It also enables to obtain high quality data which is not at all achievable with conventional microscopes which use photons or electrons as the emitting source.
UN appoints whom as special envoys for El Nino, Climate - Mary Robinson, Macharia Kamau
United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has announced Mary Robinson and Macharia Kamau as UN’s Special Envoys for El Nino and Climate.
However, these appointments come at a time of great urgency as the drought and flooding associated with El Nino have created massive needs across the world.
The four regions of East Africa, Southern Africa, Central America and the Pacific has been worst affected by the El Nino.

Who will become Prime Minister of Turkey - Binali Yildirim
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 20 May 2016 Transport Minister of Turkey Binali Yildirim emerged as the country’s Prime Minster.
Binali Yildirim is all set to be named as the prime minister after he was formally chosen for the post in a closed vote.
On 22 May 2016, he will also be the sole candidate for the Justice and Development Party (AKP) leadership at a special party congress.
27th India-Indonesia CORPAT concludes in - Belawan
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 19 May 2016 The 27th edition of the India-Indonesian CORPAT (Coordinated Patrol) concluded in Belawan, Indonesia.
During the closing ceremony Belawan saw the two navies conducting interactive session on measures to enhance inter-operability.
The 27th CORPAT was organised from 29 April to 19 May 2016.
US House of Representatives gave nod to bolster defence ties with India on par with – NATO
On 20 May 2016, The US House of Representatives gave its nod to a bipartisan legislation to improve defence ties with India.
However, an amendment to the NDAA which is known as National Defence Authorisation Act was approved by the House. With this, the amendment is dubbed as ‘Enhancing Defence and Security Co-operation with India’.
