WHO launches global effort to end TB by 2030 on - 17th November 2017
The World Health Organization on 17th November 2017 started a new global effort to end Tuberculosis by 2030. Under this new scheme, 75 ministers agreed to take immediate action to end TB by 2030. This project was inaugurated during1st WHO Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Tuberculosis in the Sustainable Development Era: A Multi-sector Response that was attended by 114 Nations in Moscow.

The Moscow Declaration to End TB focuses to expand multi-sector action including tracking the progress, and build accountability.
More than 1000 members took part in the 2-days conference that resulted in collective promise to end TB.Important Highlights
- The members pledged to attain universal health coverage by strengthening health systems and improving access to people-centered Tuberculosis prevention and care.
- They also pledged to mobilize sufficient and sustainable investments by increasing domestic and international investments.
- The ministers also pledged to build accountability through a framework to track and review advancement on ending TB including multi-sector approaches.
- They also pledged to reduce the risk & spreading of drug resistance and do more to capture people and communities affected by, and at risk of, Tuberculosis.
- Global efforts to fight TB have safeguarded an estimated 53 million lives since 2000 and decreased the TB mortality rate by 37%. However, progress in many Nations has stalled with prolonged chasm in Tuberculosis care and prevention.
- Tuberculosis still kills more people than any other infectious disease. One of the main issues is the lack of political efforts and insufficient investment in fighting Tuberculosis.
Miss World beauty contest won by - Manushi Chhillar
India's Manushi Chhillar won the Miss World beauty contest for year 2017. The victory comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra brought home the title in year 2000. Andrea Meza, who is Miss Mexico, was the 1st runner up and Stephanie Hill from England was 2nd runner up. Around 108 women across the world took part in the beauty contest.
Ms Chhillar who is 20-year-old from Haryana, studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and in Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women, Sonepat.
As per Ms Chhillar's profile on the Miss World website, Ms Chhillar focuses to be a cardiac surgeon and has projects of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas.
Ms Chhillar's profile also informs that she is a trained classical dancer and has a tantrum for sports like scuba diving, bungee jumping and snorkeling.
After reaching the top 5, Ms Chhillar was questioned during the Question and Answer round that which profession she thought deserved the highest salary and why.
In her reply, Ms Chhillar told it was not a question about the person's salary and for that a mother deserves the highest respect.Ms Chhillar is the 6th Indian woman to win this title of Miss World. Reita Faria was the 1st Indian woman to claim the title in 1966, followed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in year 1994, Diana Haydon in year 1997, Yukta Mookhey in year 1999 and Priyanka Chopra in year 2000.
The winner of last year's title, Puerto Rico's Stephanie Del Valle passed on her crown to Ms Chhillar.
