Monetary penalty imposed on ICICI and Bank of Baroda by RBI
On 17th December 2014, Monetary penalty was imposed by RBI on two banks which are ICICI bank and Bank of Baroda, this penality was imposed as these banks violated RBI instructions regarding norms on Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML).
This penality was imposed under the provisions of Section 47(A)(1)(c) read with Section 46(4)(i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Penality of ICICI bank is 5 million rupees and on Bank of Baroda is 2.50 million rupees.
GSLV Mark-III-X launched successfully by ISRO from Sriharikota
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 18th December 2014, India's heaviest rocket GSLV Mark-III-X (630 tonnes) carrying Crew module Atmospheric Reentry Experiment (CARE) was successfully launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It will double the capacity of payloads India can carry into space boosting India's mission of sending human to the space.
Tashi-Nungshi became world's 1st twin to climb highest peaks of seven continents
On 16th December 2014, Girls from Dehradun (Uttarakhand) Tashi Malik and Nungshi Malik became world's first twin and sibling to climb the highest peaks of the seven continents.
They made this record after they scaled highest mountain of Antarctica Mount Vinson at 4892 meters during their Mission 2 for 7. These sisters dedicated 2 for 7 to the cause of the Indian girl child.
Following are the highlights their Journey :
- They Conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (Africa continent) in February 2012,
- They Conquered Mount Elbrus in Russia (Europe continent) in August 2013,
- They Conquered Mount Aconcagua in Argentina (South America continent) in January 2014,
- They Conquered Mount Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia (Oceania continent) in March 2014,
- They Conquered Mount McKinley in Alaska (North America continent) in June 2014 and
- Finally they Conquered Mount Vinson of Antarctica (Antarctica continent) in December 2014.
SC directed govt to complete fencing along Indo-Bangladesh border with in 3 months
On 17th December 2014, Union Govt was directed by Supreme Court to complete fencing work along Indo-Bangladesh border within three months. This direction is aimed to check cross-border influx of illegal Bangladesh nationals into Assam. Apart from this decision govt was also asked to streamline the process to deport back illegal migrants who came to Assam after 25 March 1971.
Court asked the govt that why even after 67 years of independence eastern border is left porous. Govt have to submit the status report after every three months as Court will be monitoring the steps taken by Govt.
Ghanta Chakrapani is the first Chairman of TSPSC
Among the important appointments On 17th December 2014, Academician and journalist Ghanta Chakrapani was appointed as first Chairman of TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) and he will be serving at this post for six years. At the time of appointment he was serving as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU).
