Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika won fourth term as the President
Abdelaziz Bouteflika won the Presidency elections for the fourth time consecutively in Algeria on 18th April 2014. He belongs to National Liberation Front party.
Abdelaziz Bouteflika won presidential election with a huge 81 percent of the vote.
His main contender, Ali Benflis who is a former prime minister got only 12.1 percent votes.

The president is elected for five years term by the people in Algeria. The presidentship was limited to two terms in the original constitution. However, the constitution was amended in 2008 to remove the term limits.
In Goa's Selaulim reservoir high manganese content found
In the Selaulim reservoir in Goa, High manganese level has been detected. Selaulim reservoir supplies drinking water to more than half of the coastal State.
The State Public Works Department has started monitoring the water content at the South Goa reservoir. At the reservoir around 160-180 million metric tonnes of water is processed daily.
Earth Size planet found in the Habitable Zone of another star, named Kepler-186f
On 17th April 2014 Astronomers announced that they have discovered an Earth-size planet which was named Kepler-186f. The planet is located in the habitable zone—a range of distance from a star where liquid water might pool on the planet's surface. It is a part of the Kepler-186 system, which is located about 500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. A team of astronomers that includes Penn State scientists has discovered the first Earth-size planet orbiting a star in the "habitable zone".

Giant torch unveiled in US in honour of Indian spiritual guru Chinmoy Kumar Ghose
On 17th April 2014, a giant torch which is replica of Olympic torch, was unveiled in honour of Indian spiritual leader Chinmoy Kumar Ghose. This torch is 25 feet tall. The huge torch is 11 times larger than the Olympic torch used in the 1998 Winter Olympic games to carry the flame from Athens to Nagano in Japan and weighs 1200 kg. The torch was unveiled to honour the 50 years of Ghose. Chinmoy Kumar Ghose had moved to New York from India in April 1964.
Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez passed away at 87
On 17th April 2014, the Nobel laureate in literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Mexico. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was considered the most popular Spanish-language writer after Miguel de Cervantes in the 17th Century.
He was honoured with Nobel prize in 1982 for literature. His first and epic novel One Hundred Years of Solitude was published in 1967.
His other important books include Chronicle of a Death Foretold (1981), Love in the Time of Cholera (1985), Autumn of the Patriarch (1975), The General in his Labyrinth (1989), Of Love and Other Demons (1994) and Living to Tell the Tale (2002).
World Heritage Day observed across the globe on 18 April 2014
