Ship of Theseus won Best Feature Film in 61st National Film Awards
The 61st National Film Awards for 2013 was announced in New Delhi on 16 April 2014 by the Directorate of Film Festivals. "Ship of Theseus" directed by Anand Gandhi bagged the name of Best feature film.
Best popular film award was given to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag that was produced and directed in 2013 by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
Other awards are as follows :
- Best Actor – Raj Kumar ( Shahid ) and Suraj Venjaramoodu ( Perariyathavar )
- Best Actress – Geetanjali Thapa ( Liar's Dance )
- Best Direction – Hansal Mehta ( Shahid )
- Best Film on Social Issues – Gulabi Gang ( directed by Nishtha )
- Best Supporting Actor – Saurabh Shukla ( Jolly LLB )
- Best Supporting Actress – Amruta Subhash ( Astu ) and Aida El-Kashef ( Ship of Theseus )
- Best Children's Film – Kaphal
- Best Child Artist – Somnath Avghade ( Fandry ) and Sadhana ( Thanga Meengal )
- Special Jury Award – Yellow and Miss Lovely
- Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director – ( Fandry )

National Film Awards were established in 1954. Annually, the national panel is appointed by Government of India to select the winner in different categories. The awards are presented by the President of India in the official ceremony. This year award giving ceremony will held on 3rd May 2014.
Google Acquired Drone maker company Titan Aerospace
On 14th April 2014 Google bought Titan Aerospace. Titan Aerospace is a maker of high altitude solar powered drones. Google has acquired Titan aerospace in a bid to bring internet access around the globe, mainly for remotest areas of the world. As per google, this technology can be used in disaster relief and assessing environmental damage and voice and data communications.
Earlier, Facebook also acquired UK-based Solar drone company Ascenta for 20 million dollars.
Appointment of Narendra Kothari as Chairman of NMDC approved by Union Cabinet
National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Limited will have a full time Chairman after two years, as name of Mr. Narendra Kothari has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Mr. Narendra Kothari is currently the CEO of SAIL's Burnpur plant in West Bengal. The country’s biggest iron ore miner NDMC has been functioning without a full-time chairman and managing director ever since incumbent Rana Som retired in December 2011.
SC ruled out that CAG is empowered to audit private telecom companies
On 17th April 2014, Supreme Court of India ruled out that the national auditor, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is empowered to audit the revenues of private telecom companies. Supreme Court said it was imperative to ascertain how the government and the firms were dealing with natural resources, "which belonged to the people of the country", and that the government received its due share under the agreements.
The judgement was given by the SC bench of Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Justice Vikramjit Sen. The bench upheld the January 2014 decision of the Delhi High Court.
Admiral R K Dhowan appointed as new Navy chief
Admiral Robin K Dhowan (PVSM AVSM YSM ADC) on 17th April 2014 took over as the 22nd Chief of Indian Navy. At the time of being appointed as the chief of Navy, he was serving the Indian Navy as its acting Naval Chief. He is a successor of Admiral DK Joshi, who resigned on 26 February 2014 taking moral responsibility of the accident on INS Sindhuratna in Mumbai. Joshi was the first Defence forces Chief to resign, since independence.
Admiral Dhowan was commissioned on 1st January, 1975 and is a navigation and direction specialist. He has served in an array of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments through his exemplary career spanning 40 years. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA. He has commanded frontline warships INS Khurki, INS Ranjit and INS Delhi.
