Who appointed as Law Commission member - Satya Pal Jain

Among Important National Current Affairs, on 10 June 2016 Satya Pal Jain who is Additional Solicitor General of India and former Parliamentarian was appointed as a part-time member of the 21st Law Commission of India.

However, the appointment will be in addition to his charge as an Additional Solicitor General of India.

Know About Satya Pal Jain –

• Satya Pal Jain, who is a noted constitution lawyer and senior BJP leader also had served as the Dean of the Law Faculty of Panjab University and presently is a Member of the Panjab University Senate. 

• Satya Pal has been a lawyer in various important civil and criminal cases, Presidential election disputes, Liberhan Commission of Enquiry, various election petitions and other important civil and criminal cases too.

Union Ministry of Civil Aviation proposes passenger centric amendments to – CARs

On 11 June 2016, Ashok Gajapathi Raju who is a Union Civil Aviation Minister along with MOS Dr Mahesh Sharma presided over a presentation made by DGCA with regard to Passenger Centric Initiatives.

The Ministry is also committed to ensure that flying for most Indians becomes a pleasant experience along with the growth of the Airline industry. 

They also proposed certain amendments to the existing Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs).

Which state becomes India’s first State to launch open government data portal – Sikkim

Sikkim which is a landlocked state of India, and also located in the Himalayan Mountains became the first state in India to have an open government data portal linked ‘sikkim.data.gov.in’. 

By Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai this portal was launched and he also launched Open Government Data Platform (Sikkim).

• Open Government Data Portal has been developed by Government of Sikkim’s Information Technology Department and NIC team from New Delhi. 

Who is elected as Speaker of Puducherry Assembly - V. Vaithilingam

Among Important National Current Affairs, Congress leader and former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 14th Puducherry legislative Assembly.

Whereas, pro-tem Speaker VP Shivakozhuthu has been announced elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker. 

However, V. Vaithilingam had served Chief Minister of the Union Territory twice. For the first time he was in office from 1991 to 1996 and for the second time again from 2008-2011.

V. Vaithilingam was the second youngest Chief Minister and the first Chief Minister of Puducherry to serve the full five-year term till date. 

2016 Global Peace Index released by - IEP 

On 10 June 2016, Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released the 2016 GPI, which is known as Global Peace Index. 

However, it is 10th edition of GPI that measured peace, its causes and its economic value during 2015 for 163 countries.

Please Note: With 2.566 GPI score, India ranked 141 among the 163 countries. It showed an extreme improvement in peace building as it held 143th rank in 2014 and 2015.
