International Day of the Girl Child 2016 observed across the world
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 11th October 2016 The International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) was observed across the world with the main theme Girls' Progress = Goals' Progress: What Counts for Girls.
Here the theme for the 2016 IDGC asks for a call for action for increased investment in collecting and analyzing girl-focused, girl-relevant and sex-disaggregated data.
Who has been appointed as China's Ambassador to India - Luo Zhaohui
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 8th October 2016 Luo Zhaohui was appointed as China's Ambassador to India, in accordance with a decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature of China.
However, his appointment was approved by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He succeeds former Chinese Ambassador to India Le Yucheng, who left the position in April 2016.
Which two words have been added to Oxford English Dictionary - Aiyoh, Aiyah
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 4th October 2016 the words Aiyoh and Aiyah have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).
However, they are also credited to Mandarin and Cantonese dialects of Chinese.
Please Note: The words aiyah and aiyoh are interchangeable. Like many other Indian words, Aiyoh and Aiyah can mean many things depending on context and tone like irritation, disgust, surprise, dismay, pain, lament, disappointment.
Oliver Hart, Bengt Holmstrom win 2016 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in - Economic Sciences
On 10th October 2016 Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmstrom, both were awarded with the 2016 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for their contributions to contract theory.
Here, they have developed a contract theory, a comprehensive framework for analysing many diverse issues in contractual design, like performance-based pay for top executives, deductibles and co-pays in insurance and the privatisation of public-sector activities.
