Government approves construction of over 1.86 lakh more houses under PMAY-Urban approved by -  Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has passed the building of 1,86,777 extra affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The acceptance was issued at the 30th conference of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.
Key Facts

• The latest acceptance takes total number of houses passed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana more than 39.25 lakh.
• It is entailed investment of Rupees 11,169 crores with central assistance of Rupees 2,797 crores.
• Haryana has been approved maximum number of 53,290 houses in this round of acceptance, followed by Tamil Nadu with 40,623 houses, Gujarat with 15,584, Maharashtra with 12,123, Kerala with 9,461, Karnataka with 32,656, Uttarakhand with 6,226 and Orissa with 5,133 respectively.
  Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) provide houses to all poor living in urban areas by year 2022.
• It is new type of Prime Minister’s Housing For All by 2022 vision. Its aim is to built 2 crore houses across country.
• It includes entire urban area containing of 4041 statutory towns with starting focus on 500
  Class-I cities.
• Planned beneficiaries of Yojna are Poor people and People living under Economically Weaker Sections and Low-Income- Group in urban establishments of nation. It is also aiming people living under Middle-Income Group.
• Government will give subsidy ranging between 1 lakh-2.30 lakh to citizen from above
  sections to make them safeguard.

CCI fines Google Rs.136 crore fined to Google by - CCI 

The Competition Commission of India has forced Rupees 136 crores penalty on world’s popular search engine Google for illegal business exercises in Indian market for online search. The fine was forced on Google for infringing anti-trust conduct.
CCI Ruling

• Competition Commission of India found that Google was found to be involved search bias exercises and thus, harmed its competitors and users too.
• It was also found that, to fortify its position in market for online search facilities, Google was burrowing its superiority in market for online simple web-search.
• The fine imposed consist of five percent of company’s total revenue average produced from India operations from its various business sections for financial years 2013, 2014 and 2015.

• Competition Commission of India approved the fine orders on complaints filed in 2012 by
  Matrimony.com and Consumer Unity & Trust Society in 2012.
• It was alleged that Google is involved in abuse of superior position in market for online search through practices resulting in to search bias and search manipulation, between others.
• Competition Commission of India’s decision comes after same anti-trust difficulties for Google in
  European Union and Russia. Google also had resolved an anti-trust issue in Russia out of the court.

• It was formed in October 2003 and became completely practical in May 2009. It focuses to remove
  practices that badly affect competition in various industries and safeguard interests of users and assure freedom of trade.

Indra Nooyi appointed as first independent female Director of ICC on - 9th February 2018

PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi was appointed as the Independent Director of the  International Cricket Council on February 9th, 2018.
With this, Nooyi became the 1st independent female Director of the International Cricket Council. Nooyi will start working with the International Cricket Council Board in June 2018 to line up with the term of the International Cricket Council Independent Chairman.

The nomination came after the introduction of the designation of an Independent Director of International Cricket Council, who must be female. The same was approved by the International Cricket Council Full Council in June 2017 as part of wide constitutional alteration to enhance the global governance of the sport.

Antony Dominic sworn in as Chief Justice of Kerala on - 9th February 2018

Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court Antony Dominic took oath in as the Chief Justice of Kerala on February 9th, 2018. Justice Dominic took the Oath of Office from Kerala Governor P. Sadasivam which was witnessed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Raj Bhavan, Kerala.

 With this, Justice Dominic became the 1st Keralite to fill the post of Chief Justice of Kerala in seventeen years. The last Keralite who filled the leading position was Justice KK Usha, who worked in the court in the year 2001.

• Justice Dominic is a native of Ponkunnam near Kanjirapally in Kottayam district.
• He received his Degree of Law from SDM Law College, Mangalore and initiated his legal practice as a lawyer in the Judicial 1st-Class Magistrate Court, Kanjirapally in 1981. 
• Subsequently, he transferred to the Kerala High Court in 1986. 
• In 2007, he became an additional judge of the Kerala High Court and was promoted as permanent judge of the High Court of Kerala, within a year.
• He is a subscriber of the Karikattukunnel House, Ponkunnam.
