Employee’s Compensation (Amendment) Bill 2016 passed by - Lok Sabha
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 9th August 2016 Lok Sabha passed the Employee’s Compensation (Amendment) Bill, 2016 with an aim to reduce litigation in cases of disputes arising over compensation to workers.
The Bill also meant to amend the Employee’s Compensation Act, 1923. However, this law provides payment of compensation to employees and their dependents in the case of injury by industrial accidents, including occupational diseases.
Which country launches Gaofen-3 Satellite to get accurate images of earth – China
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 10th August 2016 China launched the Gaofen-3 Satellite, which is known to be China's first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging satellite.
This satellite was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in northern Shanxi province on 10th August, 2016.

Kazakhstan's Nijat Rahimov wins men's 77kg weightlifting gold at - Rio Olympics
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 10th August 2016, Kazakhstan’s Nijat Rahimov broke the world record by winning the gold medal of the men's 77kg weightlifting class at the Rio Olympic Games.
However, Lu Xiaojun of China took the silver and Mohamed Ihab of Egypt claimed the bronze.
Here, Rahimov had to lift 214kg to win, 4kg more than Lu’s clean and jerk world record, which he set at the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.
Rhino horn verification process begins in – Assam
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 11th August 2016 Assam Government has started verification of rhino horns, stored in various treasuries since 1980.
However, for this purpose, the government recently instituted a Rhino Horn Verification Committee.
The 12-member committee, which is headed by former forest officer and former Assam State Information Commissioner, Mohan Chandra Malakar will be responsible for verifying the genuineness of the rhino horns, which were recovered in last three decades and stored in various treasuries.
Who will be honoured by A R Rahman at UN on Independence Day - M S Subbulakshmi
Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, on 15th August 2016, the renowned carnatic vocalist M. S. Subbulakshmi will be honoured at the United Nations by a performance by A.R. Rahman at the United Nations General Assembly.
After this, Rahman will become the second Indian artist after Subbulakshmi to perform at the UN. She was also invited by the then UN Secretary General U Thant to perform at the UN headquarters in 1966.
Which aayog ties up with US EIA to set up portal on energy data - NITI Aayog
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 10th August 2016 National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog has finally signed the agreement with United States (US) Energy Information Administration (EIA) to set up web portal on energy data.
This web portal is meant to host all the data related to energy sector including oil & gas, coal, solar & thermal energy etc.
This NITI Aayog, a think tank of Union Government, is working to develop India's energy data agency which will take 3-4 years to develop.
