Gandhi Peace Prize for 2013 bagged by Chandi Prasad Bhatt
Updated : 01-Mar-2014Environmentalist and Gandhian Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt won Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2013. He was awarded this prize on 28th February 2014. The jury for the prize met under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to finalize his name for this prestigious award. Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt was born in 1934 in Uttarakhand.
Important to note :
- Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt was awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1982 for Chipko movement.
- Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt also received Padma Bhushan in 2005.
- He is well known for his work on social ecology.

Gandhi Peace Prize :
Gandhi Peace Prize was lauched on the occasion of 125th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 1995 by Government of India. It is very prestigious award carring an amount of 10 million rupees, a citation and a Plaque. It is worth mentionting here that award is selected by a jury directly under the chairmanship of the Prime minister of India.
This prize can be given to an individual or an institution for their contributions towards social, economic and political transformation through non voilence.
