Packaged food labels to display if they contain GM ingredients by - FSSAI
The FSSAI projected on May 8 th , 2018 that all packaged food products containing Genetically Modified contents should clearly mention it on their labels. In its 42 pages draft notification subjected ‘Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2018’, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India announced for making it compulsory to label food items as ‘Ingredients derived from GMO’, if the items contain 5% and above Genetically Modified ingredients.
The authority will officially notify the necessities for implementation after carefully analysing the shareholders’ views on the issue.
Highlights of the draft notification- The food regulator also recommended for mandatory announcement by packaged food producers about nutritional information including calories, total fat, trans fats, sugar and salt per serving on the front side of the pack.
- The draft terrains for a colour code, suggests that the high fats, sugar, salt and trans-fats content should be coloured as ‘red’ if the value of energy from them is above 10% of the total energy in the 100gms or 100ml of the product.
- It will ease consumers to know about the nutritional value of food products and will assist them in making choices according to their needs.
India to host 15th Asia Media Summit in - New Delhi
The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in partnership with the Indian Institute of Mass
Communication, New Delhi and Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited, would be presenting the 15th Asia Media Summit in New Delhi from May 10th-12th, 2018.
The Union Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani would be governing over the introductory ceremony of the summit as the Chief Guest on May 10th.
Key Highlights- The summit would be planned in 2 parts pre-summit workshop 8th-9th and summit from 10th-12th.
- It is believed to witness participants from ministries responsible for information and broadcasting in the Asian region, international organizations including UNESCO, FAO, United Nations, radio and television broadcasting firms and broadcast equipment producers.
- It goals to inspire regional and bilateral talks and association to respond to tasks to the broadcasting sector in the region.
- It would deliver a unique opption for broadcasters in the Asian sector to share their thoughts on software and hardware aspects of Broadcasting.
- It would also deliver openings for networking, facilities for business to business meetings and potential conversion of these conferences into employment and economic relations after the summit.
Agenda - The agenda of the summit would have plenary sessions on media regulation policies: ethics, rules and laws and our exciting tales.
- Similar sessions would be organised on Asian values as broadcasting subjects.
- In the final session, World Television Awards 2018 would be given by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
- The concluding ceremony would see the handing over of the stick for hosting the upcoming summit to Philippines.
SoI inked with Google to help grow AI ecosystem in India by - NITI Aayog
The NITI Aayog has inked SoI with search engine giant Google to work collectively to boost growth for
India’s nascent artificial intelligence and machine learning ecosystem,
Key Points- Under the guidance of this program, Google will train and incubate Indian Artificial Intelligence start-ups in accelerator program.
- These start-ups will be mentored and taught by Google and its affiliates to enable them to healthier leverage Artificial Intelligence in their individual business models.
- Moreover, Indian scientists, scholars and university faculty will be sponsored to assist bolster research ecosystem for conducting Artificial Intelligence-based research.
- Further, Google will also come with its online training programmes on Artificial Intelligence to students, graduates and engineers to various cities across India.
- Google will also organise hands-on training programmes to sensitise representatives and technical
experts in governments about applicable Artificial Intelligence tools, and to utilise them for streamlining governance. - Under this partnership, NITI Aayog and Google will equally organize AI-hackathon that will
be attentive on solving important challenges within healthcare, education, agriculture, financial,
transportation and mobility etc.

UN Chief Antonio Guterres announces to hold climate summit in - September 2019
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres proclaimed on May 8th, 2018 to celebrate a climate summit in September 2019 in New York, for the revaluation of the promises of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
The declaration was made at the inaugural ceremony of the 37th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Seeing that the effects of climate change remain spreading around the world, the United Nations Chief pressed for the requirement to adopt collective actions to deal with it. He also stressed that the fresh plans must be grounded on investing in resilient progress with less carbon emissions.
In March 2018, Guterres selected former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Climate Action who was provided task to support the UN in its climate strategy and in holding the 2019 summit.
US withdrawal from Paris Agreement on Climate Change- President Donald Trump on June 1st, 2017 declared to withdraw the US from the landmark 2015 Paris agreement to fight climate change.
- Donald Trump supposed that the Paris agreement would weaken the United States economy, United States jobs cost and weaken the American national authority.
- The USA was one among 195 countries that had decided to sign the agreement in December 2015.
RED CROSS DAY celebrated globally on - 8th May 2018
World Red Cross day is celebrated every year as the birthday of originator of the Red Cross on 8 th of May. Henry Dunant was the originator of the Red Cross and the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross, born in the Geneva in the year 1828. He was very famous personality and also received first Nobel Peace Prize.
World Red Cross Day is a yearly programme, observing the principles of “International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement”.
