    PM Modi raises issues of terrorism, climate change at BRICS Leaders' Informal Meeting in Hamburg on - 7th July 2017

    The leaders of the 5 BRICS nations had an informal meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany on 7th July 2017. This was in run up to the upcoming 9th BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in September 2017 in Xiamen, China.

    Informal BRICS Leaders Meeting in Hamburg During the meet, the leaders discussed priorities and preparations for the up-coming Xiamen BRICS Summit. In addition, President Xi, the leader of the host country for the September Xiamen BRICS Summit said that he is looking forward to welcoming the BRICS leaders.


    Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was a participant of the meet mentioned that BRICS has been a strong voice and needs to show its leadership on terrorism and global economy.
    He stressed that G20 should collectively oppose safe havens,terrorism financing, franchises, sponsors and support.

    Referring to reforms in India, including the recent introduction of GST, PM stated that it was necessary to work together for sustained global economic recovery. He advocated collective voice against the protectionism practices, especially in the trade spheres and movement of knowledge among professionals.

    Modi also reiterated India's commitment to implement Paris Agreement in letter and spirit and described its implementation globally as an essential for fighting the climate change. Apart from this, the Prime Minister also called for expeditious action to establish BRICS rating agency and stated that cooperation on Africa development should be a priority. He also called for more people-to-people exchanges.

    Union Government proposes scheme to open residential schools for SC girls on - 7th July 2017

    Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot on 7th July 2017 stated that the Union Government has proposed to introduce a scheme to open residential schools for scheduled caste girls in educationally backward districts.
    Thawar Chand Gehlot, The Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister informed about the proposed school while speaking at a regional conference of social welfare ministers from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and officials from Chandigarh.
    He said the schools will have classes from VI to XII and 70 percent of the seats will be reserved for SC girls and the remaining for those from BPL families in other categories.
    The Minister said the Union Government is committed to ensuring the welfare of scheduled caste and tribes, OBCs and BPL families through the proper implementation of all centrally-sponsored social security and welfare schemes.
    He requested the ministers and officials to make a report on the financial assistance being given under different schemes and by the national financial corporations within a month.
    Also he also informed that the Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana for senior citizens is also being implemented. Benefits of these schemes would be given on the first-come-first-serve basis. The minister also requested officers to send their suggestions and plans on these schemes at the earliest.
    In addition to this, the minister also gave away cheques to entrepreneurs from the SCs and launched a website of Venture Capital Fund for SCs and a brochure on the subject.
