    Life insurance scheme worth Rs 5 lakh for farmers launched by - Telangana

    The state government of Telangana launched the first-of-its-kind life insurance program worth Rs 5 lakh for the farmers in the state on August 6th, 2018. The scheme, which is called Rythu Bandhu Life Insurance Bonds, is expected to benefit 2.8 million farmers and their families. The launch comes ahead
    of the 2019 state and parliamentary elections.

    Important Highlights

    • Under the program, the families of the farmers will be getting the insurance amount irrespective of the fact whether the farmer’s death is natural or accidental.
    • The insurance amount will be given to the farmer’s family within 10 days itself.
    • The distribution of insurance papers to the farmers would be beginning from August 15th.
    • Rough investment of Rs 650 crore made in order to launch the scheme.
    • Telangana agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas distributed the life insurance bonds to farmers in Kamareddy district during the launch.
    • Officials from the agriculture department took up distribution in other parts of the state also.
    • Most of the bonds are expected to be given to farmers by 15th of September.

    Name of former Tamil Nadu CM and DMK patriarch, who passed away - M Karunanidhi

    On 7th August 2018, DMK patriarch Muthuvel Karunanidhi passed away who was admitted to hospital on 28th July 2018. August 8 was declared as holiday by Tamil Nadu government to mourn the death of leader.

    Muthuvel Karunanidhi was a strong name in Tamil Nadu politics. He also served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for five terms. He was appointed as Cheif Minister first time in 1969 after the death of CN Annadurai.

    Who replaced Indra Nooyi as CEO of Pepsico - Ramon Laguarta

    On 3rd October 2018, Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi will step down from CEO position, as Ramon Laguarta will be succeeding her. Indra Nooyi was CEO of this company from last 12 years. She will continue to serve as Chairman of the company till early 2019.

    Indra Nooyi who is an Indian, is first foreign born CEO of Pepsi. She was born in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) on 28th Ocotober 1955.
