Which state's Legislative Assembly passed a resolution against death penalty - Tripura

Among National Current Affairs, On 7th August 2015, Legislative assembly of Tripura passed a resolution against the death penalty. This resolution moved by Congress MLA Jitendra Sarkar requested the Union government to amend the Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and replace it with life sentence unto death.

As per procedure this resolution will now be sent to Union government and the Law Commission for consideration.. 

India decided to boycott which Conference to be held in Islamabad - 61st Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference

On 7th August 2015, India decided to boycott the 61st Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan. This is scheduled to be held from 30th September 2015 to 8th October 2015.

This decision was taken after the meeting of the Speakers of all State Legislative Assemblies in New Delhi, as this meeting was called to discuss the Pakistan's decision to not invite the Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Kavinder Gupta. As India insisted that Pakistan saying that by not inviting J&K speaker, it is violating the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) constitution and was against the guiding principles of the Commonwealth of promotion of international understanding, world peace and democratic governance.

Which company commissioned 500 MW unit of Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station - BHEL

On 7th August 2015, 500 MW Unit-13 of Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station (STPS), Stage-V of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) was commissioned by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Vindhyanagar in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh.

After installation of this BHEL has now commissioned seven sets of 500 MW each aggregating to 3500 MW at Vindhyachal power station, which is the highest by BHEL in a power project.

BHEL involvement in the project comprised of designing, engineering, manufacturing, supply and erection & commissioning of steam generator and steam turbine generator along with associated auxiliaries and state of the art controls and instrumentation.

Full form of BHEL is - Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and it is owned by Government of India. It is a power plant equipment manufacturer and operates as an engineering and manufacturing company based in New Delhi, India. It was established in 1964.

Who was appointed as Chairperson of India's operation of Accenture - Rekha Menon

Among Business Current Affairs, On 7th August 2015, Rekha M Menon was appointed as the chairperson of Accenture India. She will be taking charge of this post from 21st August 2015. She will be succeeding Avinash Vashista.

Which global satellite was proposed to be named after Abdul Kalam - GlobalSat for DRR

GlobalSat for DRR which is a Global satellite was proposed to be named after former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who recently passed away on 27 July 2015.

This satellite is used for earth observation and disaster risk reduction and will be named as UN Kalam GlobalSat.

Milind Pimprikar who is Chairman of CANEUS (CANada-Europe-US-Asia) headquartered in Montreal, Canada made this proposal in the honour and tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

The proposed GlobalSat will be formally adopted by more than 150 world leaders at the UN Session in New York in September 2015.

The 'GlobalSat for DRR' is a UN-driven global initiative on sharing space technology for disaster risk reduction and the launch of this satellite was mooted at the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held at Sendai in Japan in March 2015.
