Maharashtra Government allocates land to - LIGO India Project
Among Important National Current Affairs, Maharashtra Government has allocated about 40.68 hectare land to Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to build LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory) India Project at Dudhala village in Hingoli district.
However, with this now India will join elite league of countries consisting of US, UK, Italy, Germany and Japan that support on-going research on gravitational waves.
Besides this, also it will be third such laboratory in the world and first outside US. The existing two LIGO laboratories in US are located in Livingston, Louisiana and Hanford, Washington.
2016 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Colombian President - Juan Manuel Santos
Among Important International Current Affairs, the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.
However, he was also selected for the prestigious award by the Norwegian Nobel Committee for his resolute efforts to bring the more than 50-year-long civil war of Colombia to an end.
Do You Know –
• Manuel Santos had first initiated the negotiations with the guerrilla (rebel) group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
• Also these negotiations had culminated into a peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas.
• In October 2016 only, the peace deal was rejected by a narrow majority by the Colombians when it was put to referendum.
Name the first Platinum rated green airport terminal building in India - IGIA's T3
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 6th October 2016 Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has declared that the Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) achieved Platinum rating from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
During the 14th Green Building Congress, 2016 organized by IGBC in Mumbai, the plaque and certificate for the achievement was handed over by IGBC to Douglas Webster, COO-DIAL and Roy Sebastian, VP- Project and Engineering.
However with this, the state-of-the-art Terminal 3 of IGIA has become the first Platinum rated green terminal building under Green Existing Building O&M Rating System by IGBC.
Also this is another significant environmental achievement by IGIA, after being accredited as the first Carbon Neutral airport in Asia Pacific recently by Airports Council International (ACI).
India to host 2016 Asian Ministerial Conference for - Disaster Risk Reduction
From November 3 to 5, 2016 India is hosting the 2016 Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR), in New Delhi.
However, this will be second time India hosting AMCDRR. The conference will be hosted by Union Government in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
Who has been appointed as Honorary Consul of Germany in Hyderabad - BVR Mohan Reddy
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 5th October 2016 BVR Mohan Reddy who is a Founder and Executive Chairman of Cyient Ltd, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Germany in Hyderabad.
However, his appointment was announced by the German Ambassador to India Martin Ney.
Here as a Honorary Consul, Mohan Reddy will work towards further strengthening the collaboration between the two nations; promoting culture, industry and commerce, facilitating investments, educational exchange and enhancing goodwill.
Pawan Chamling honoured with which award - Sustainable Development Leadership Award
On 6th October 2016, Pawan Chamling who is the Chief Minister of Sikkim, was conferred the prestigious 2016 Sustainable Development Leadership Award.
However, the President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to Chamling during the World Sustainable Development Summit organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New Delhi.
Here, the award was presented to Chamling in recognition of his vision and leadership in environment and sustainable development leading to the establishment of Sikkim as the first and only organic state in the country.
