    Permanent Account Number has been made obligatory for Central Excise Registration by - Union Government

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 4th May 2015, Union Finance Ministry made Permanent Account Number (PAN) mandatory for private firms seeking Central Excise Registration.

    Under this deliberation, the Ministry issued an order mentioning that applicants seeking registration will mandatorily have to quote PAN of the proprietor or the legal entity being registered in the application form.

    To improve the ease in doing business in manufacturing, the PAN registration will be given within two days of filing online applications as per the new laws.

    The order also affirms that the applicant will have to mention his e-mail address and mobile number in the application form for communication with the department.

    Ten-Engine Electric Plane GL-10 Prototypehas been successfully flight tested by - NASA

    Among the important International Current Affairs, On 1st May 2015, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully developed and flight tested the prototype of a ten-engine electric plane Greased Lightning (GL)-10.

    Key Features of GL-10

    • The abstract idea of the aircraft given by NASA in order to increase its capabilities in using remotely piloted aircrafts in science investigations and to augment technology development for aircraft, cubesats and other platforms.
    • It is a battery-powered 10-engine remotely piloted aircraft having eight electric motors on the wings and two electric motors on the tail.
    • It has a 10-foot wingspan and weighs a maximum of 62 pounds (28.1 kilograms) during take off.
    • It flies like an airplane and has the ability to take off like a helicopter.
    • It will be an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and could be used for small package delivery, mapping, long endurance surveillance for agriculture and for many other tasks.
    • An enhanced version of this will be developed later which can accommodate up to four persons.

    Who has won 19th Federation Cup National Athletic Championships - Indian Army

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 3rd May 2015, The Indian Army team emerged as champions in the 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletic Championships with a score of 123.5 points held in Mengaluru in Karnataka at the Mangala Stadium. The second position was attained by Tamil Nadu after scoring 114 points.

    The overall men's championships went to the Army after scoring 123.5 points, whereas Tamil Nadu attains second with 48 points.

    Kerala took the overall championship in the women's category with 86 points trailed by Karnataka with 68 points.

    Inderjeet Singh of team Haryana bagged the best athlete award in the men's category. He was awarded for his remarkable toss in the shot put event, which succour him to qualify for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

    Srabani Nanda from Odisha has been announced as the Best athlete in the women's category for the 100 metre event.

    Who has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in Goa - Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar

    On 6th May 2015, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar launched the state level ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme’ in Panaji.

    Parsekar also advised the society to invest more on girl child specially in the field of education as the girls gives more fruits to the society and family also.

    North Goa is among the 100 districts selected from across the country to exercise the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. The cause of the scheme is to empower the girl child and enable her education.

    Union Cabinet accepted Building and Launching of which satellites - GSAT-17 and GSAT-18 Communication Satellites

    Among the important National Current Affairs, On 6th May 2015, The Union Cabinet gave its approval for building and launching of GSAT-17 and GSAT-18 communication satellites.

    Similar to the GSAT-10, these two satellites are directed at providing replacement capacity and in-orbit backup which means that they will provide for protraction of the services and raising in-orbit spare capacity to meet emergencies.

    GSAT-18 and GSAT-17 satellites will weigh about 3425 Kg each and will be built and launched within 30 months at a cost of 1022 crore rupees and 1013.20 crore rupees respectively.

    These satellites will support and elevate existing Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), television and telecommunication services in the entire country.

    Credit Enhancement Guarantee Scheme has been inaugrated by - Union Government

    On 6th May 2015, Credit Enhancement Guarantee Scheme for Scheduled Castes has been launched by the Union Ministry for Social Justice & Empowermen. Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI) Ltd is administering the scheme.

    To employ financial cooperation to young and start-up entrepreneurs belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), a sum of 200 crore rupees was allocated towards Credit Enhancement Guarantee scheme under Social Sector Initiatives to promote entrepreneurship among SCs.

    The main goal of this scheme is to motivate entrepreneurship in the lower strata of the Society resulting in job creation besides creating confidence in Scheduled Castes.

    Which two countries signed inter-Governmental MoU for development of Chabahar Port - India and Iran

    On 6th May 2015, India and Iran signed an inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the strategically important Chabahar Port in Iran.

    Minister for Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Iranian Minister for Transport and Urban Development Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi inked the MoU in Tehran.

    Features of MoU

    • It smoothens Indian and Iranian commercial entities to begin negotiations for finalization of a commercial contract.
    • Indian firms will charter two existing berths at the Port and operationalize them as container and multi-purpose cargo terminals.
