Current Affairs 6th March 2016 - Details :

EC announced schedule for Assembly polls for which four states and one Union territory - West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

On 4th March 2016, Election Commission announced schedule for Legislative Assemblies of fours states and 1 UT which are Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry.

These elections will be held between 4th April and 16 May 2016.

Standard to 119 HU & Colours to 28 ED of IAF was presented to IAF by - President Mukherjee

On 4th March 2016, President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented President's standard to 119 Helicopter Unit (HU) and President’s Colours to 28 Equipment Depot (ED) of the Indian Air Force. It was presented at a function held at Air Force Station in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Two-day National Conference of Women Legislators was held in - New Delhi 

Two day National Conference of Women Legislators was held in New Delhi with theme of Women Legislators-Building Resurgent India. It was scheduled to be held from 5th March to 6th March 2016.

President Shri Pranab Mukerjee inaugurated this conference.

Name of author of Prince of Tides who passed away - Pat Conroy

Pat Conroy who a noted novelist from US passed away on 4th March 2016 at the age of 70.

He was best known for his novels The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini. Other than this popular novels written by him are Water is Wide, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, My Losing Season (memoir), The Boo to name a few.

Innovation Award 2016 for developing laterite based arsenic water filter was presented to - Sirshendu De

Among Important Awards, On 4th March 2016, Prof. Sirshendu De was selected for the Innovation Award 2016 given by the Indian Desalination Association (IDA), South Zone. Prof. Sirshendu De is head of the Chemical Engineering department of the IIT, Kharagpur.

This filter is very cost effective and will provide safe drinking water in the areas which are contaminated with arsenic. This filter has been made from naturally occurring red laterite soil which can absorb arsenic to the extent of 32mg per gram.

By this using this filter cost of the treated water will be less than 3 paisa/liter.
