Among the important appointments, On 5th February 2015, US President Barack Obama appointed Ajay Banga as member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN). Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN) is the advisory panel of US president’s on international trade.
About Ajay Banga
- He is The Chairman of the US India Business Council at present.
- Ajay Banga is President and CEO of MasterCard since 2009.
- From 1994 to 1996, he had also served as Director for Marketing and Business Development at PepsiCo Restaurants International India.
Which city has become the India’s first Wi-Fi-enabled metro city - Kolkata
On 6th February 2015, Kolkata has become the first Wi-Fi-enabled metro city in India. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal launched this 4th Generation (4G) free Wi-fi service. By mid-April 2015 whole city will be covered under Wi-Fi. The 4G Wi-fi service is provided by the Private telecom operator Reliance Jio.

On 5th February 2015, two beneficial algal species discovered off the west coast of India named Ulva paschima Bast and Cladophora goensis Bast. Dr. Felix Bast and two research students working with him discovered this species of algal. It is the first molecular study on Indian algae, and first algal species discoveed in last 40 years.
About discovered algal species
- They can be used as bio-fuels and help reduce global warming as these algal species have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
- They have the ability of spontaneous growth along the shoreline and do not require use of fertilisers or presticides for their cultivation.
HAL has acquired a defence contract for what purpose - Supplying 14 Do-228 aircrafts
Among the Important National Current Affairs, On 5th February 2015, HAL has acquired a defence contract of 1090 crore rupees for supplying 14 Do-228 aircrafts to Indian Air Force (IAF). T Suvarna Raju, chairman of HAL, said, “Apart from these aircraft, the contract valued at around Rs 1090 crores includes six reserve engines, one flight simulator and associated equipment". The Do-228 aircrafts will be manufactured by Transport Aircraft Division (TAD) at Kanpur.
