World Health Day 2014 observed across the globe
On 7th April 2014 World Health Day was observed across the globe. This day is observed to make people aware about good and sound health. Theme of this year World Health Day was vector-borne diseases.
World Health Organisation (WHO) is highlighting the serious and increasing threat of vector-borne diseases with the slogan Small bite, big threat.
Important to note :
First World Health Day was celebrated on 7 April 1950 and marks the anniversary of the WHO in 1948.
ICC Twenty20 World Cup title won by Sri Lanka
I know 99% of you are already aware of this current affair, but still I have to write :)
With Kumar Sangakkara's half-century Sri Lanka has a six-wicket victory over India in the World Twenty20 final in Dhaka on 6th April 2014.
From Indian Team Virat Kohli bagged player of the tournament title for his consistent performance.
Miss India 2014 title cliched by Koyal Rana
On 5th April 2014 Koyal Rana, who was born in Jaipur but raised in Delhi won fbb Femina Miss India 2014. She was crowned by Navneer Kaur Dhillion, the 2013 winner of Femina Miss India title and Megan Young, the Miss World 2013.
First runner-up – Jhataleka Malhotra from Mumbai
Second runner-up – Gail Nicole Da’Silva from Margao, Goa
Koyal Rana will represent India at the Miss World International beauty pageant 2014.
Sun Pharma to buy Ranbaxy Laboratories
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd to buy generic drugmaker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd for $3.2 billion.
"Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd today announced that they have entered into definitive agreements pursuant to which Sun Pharma will acquire 100 per cent of Ranbaxy in an all-stock transaction," the two companies said in a statement.
Ranbaxy shareholders will receive 0.8 share of Sun Pharma for each share of Ranbaxy.
Lee Chong Wei, Shixian Wang win India Open titles
On 6th March 2014, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia won the men's singles title of 250000 US dollar India Super Series Badminton in New Delhi. He defeated Chen Long of China in straight-game by 21-13, 21-17.
Shixian Wang won the women’s singles title by defeating top seed Li Xuerui 22-20, 21-19.
