Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana launched by - Odisha Government
The Odisha Government finally launched the Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana (BKRY) for the development of girls in three districts of the state.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched this scheme and will be implemented in Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Angul districts on a pilot basis for almost three years.
Do You Know –
• The main objective of this scheme is to improve Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) and Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in the three districts.
• Also the scheme will ensure enrolment of girls in elementary education and would help to track dropout girls from schools besides creating a better environment for them.
Who announces retirement from Shooting - Abhinav Bindra
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 4th September 2016 Abhinav Bindra who is India's lone individual Olympic gold medallist, officially declared his retirement from shooting.
However, Abhinav Bindra announced his retirement after playing for almost two decades.
Recently in Rio Olympics 2016, Bindra nearly missed a second Olympic medal by a whisker and came fourth.
Bindra is the Chairman of a review committee formulated by the NRAI to examine and identify in a cold and ruthless manner the reason as to why shooting failed to secure any medal at Rio Olympic Games.
Know About Abhinav Bindra -
• Abhinav Bindra is known to be an Indian professional shooter and businessman and is a World and Olympic champion in the 10m Air Rifle event.
• Bindra, by winning the gold in the 10 m Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games.
K K Aggarwal elected as National President of – IMA
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 2nd September 2016 Cardiologist K K Aggarwal was unanimously elected as the National President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for the year 2016-17.
However, Aggarwal is currently the Secretary General of the IMA.
For the year 2017-18, the association also elected Dr Ravi Wankhedkar from Maharashtra as the National President and Dr R N Tandon as Honorary Secretary General.
From 28 December 2016 all these appointments will be effective.
Who is canonised as Saint - Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, who is a Roman Catholic religious sister and missionary was proclaimed a Saint by Pope Francis in a ceremony at the Vatican. She was also canonised at the ceremony held in St Peter’s Square in Vatican.
However, Indian delegation was represented by Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
After this, Mother Teresa became the fourth Indian to be canonised as Saint. Others are Father Kuriakose Elias Chavara, Sister Alphonsa and Sister Euphrasia.
This list also includes Saint Gonsalo Garcia of Portuguese parentage.
Know About Mother Teresa –
• On 26th August 2016, Mother Teresa was born as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje (Now in Macedonia) then part of the Kosovo Vilayet in the Ottoman Empire.
• Mother Teresa was also the founder of Kolkata based Missionaries of Charity that helps poor on the streets of Kolkata.
• Through the charity organisation, she had spent around 45 years serving the poor, sick, and orphaned and dying on the streets of Kolkata.
IUCN lists Eastern Gorilla as - Critically Endangered
Among International Current Affairs, on 4th September 2016 The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed the eastern gorilla, which is the largest living primate, as critically endangered in its latest red list of threatened species.
However, the eastern gorilla was listed in the latest update of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species that was released at the IUCN World Conservation Congress taking place in Hawaii.
Also the IUCN stated that the eastern gorilla has suffered a 70% population collapse over the past 20 years, primarily due to illegal hunting.
Gumthala Garhu becomes first Wifi hotspot village in – Haryana
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 3rd September 2016 Gumthala Garhu near Pehowa became the first Wifi hotspot village in Haryana circle under the bulk plan of BSNL for the state.
However, the service was inaugurated by state Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Chandigarh.

• Gumthala Garhu is located on Ambala-Kaithal-Hisar road and has a population of 11000.
• The BSNL Haryana circle plans to have about 238 Wifi hotspot locations with 1072 access points in the state. The project will be implemented to its full capacity during the current financial year.
