Name the Veteran Journalist who has passed away - Amitabha Chowdhury
On 2nd May 2015, Amitabha Chowdhury, writer and renowned Tagore researcher, veteran journalist passed away in Kolkata at the age of 88.
He was associated with three leading Bengali dailies Aajkal, Anandabazar Patrika and Jugantar for more than three decades. Around 40 books had been authored by him exploring various aspects of Rabindranath Tagore.
His Awards
- In 1983, he was awarded the Padmashree.
- In 2013, he was awarded the Bangavibhushan by the state government.
- He was honoured with Ramon Magsaysay Award for his reporting on individual rights and community interests in India.
New Logo of Vedanta Limited launched
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 4th May 2015, Minerals and mining giant Vedanta Limited launched its new logo. Internal stakeholders across geographies and group companies co-created the logo.
In the new logo, the name has been changed with the help of two colours leaves green and a shade of Yale blue. The colours represent the distinct attributes of Vedanta's integrity, ethics, sustainability and professionalism. Green colour represents the Vedanta's ethical credentials and the colour blue represents the Vedanta's professionalism and integrity.
A leaf, which has been included into the Vedanta globe, signifies dedication to the triple bottom line approach of Prosperity, People and Planet. The globe symbolizes the centricity and dependence on natural resources found in the earth as well as the responsibility that Vedanta has towards communities.
Name the former Union Minister who has passed away - Baleshwar Ram
On 3rd May 2015, Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader Baleshwar Ram passed away at the age of 87. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) of 7th Lok Sabha from Rosera Lok Sabha Constituency. Baleshwar Ram served the nation in different capacities during his long public life.
He had made great benefaction for the well-being and development of the people of Bihar, especially weaker sections during his five-term membership of the Bihar legislative assembly and minister in the state government.
Rajasthan Government signed deal with - NHM, UNICEF & GAIN
Among the important National Current Affairs, On 4th May 2015, Rajasthan Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition), UNICEF and National Health Mission (NHM) in Jaipur to overcome the serious problem of malnourishment in the state.
Initially, the programme will be executed in thirteen districts in which more than 10,000 children have been spotted as malnourished. A special management programme will be organised on the community basis to deal with the problem of malnourishment.
Currently, the state has 40 malnourishment treatment centres, equipped with 10000 beds. It is also facilitated with 107 centres with six beds.
