Who presented National Geoscience Awards 2014 - President Pranab Mukherjee
On 5 April 2016, The President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Geoscience Awards - 2014 at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi.
This award is a way to honour individuals and team of scientists for their outstanding contributions in the field of fundamental or applied Geosciences, Mining and Allied areas.
Prof. Ashok Kumar Singhvi was granted with the highest honour National Geoscience Award for Excellence for his outstanding contributions in the field of sedimentary technologies, for the year 2014.
Know About National Geoscience Awards –
•National Geoscience Awards are the prestigious awards in the field of Geosciences in the country.
•In 1966, these were instituted by the Union Ministry of Mines as National Mineral Awards and rechristened as NGA in 2009.
Who says keeping a criminal caspending is violation of Article 21 of Constitution - Delhi HC
On 4 April 2016, Delhi High said that keeping a criminal case pending for indefinite period amounts to violation of constitutional rights of the accused recognized under Article 21 (right to life) of the Constitution of India.
By Justice Suresh Kait in Joginder Singh vs State (NCT of Delhi) case, the ruling was passed.
Do You Know –
•Since 1988, criminal cases against accused were pending. Although nothing material was brought to the notice delaying the process of framing charge against Singh. The FIR was registered for the offences punishable under Sections 468 (forgery for cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of Indian Penal Code.
•According to the court statement, the case could not be registered against the accused only on the basis of disclosure statement without any supporting material.
Which fastest train of India flagged off - Gatimaan Express
On 5 April 2016, Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off India's fastest train, the Gatimaan Express from Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin station.
Good news is that, the train completed its maiden journey from Delhi to Agra in 100 minutes as compared to about 2-3 hours that other trains take to cover the distance.
Know About Gatimaan Express –
•Gatimaan Express is a semi high speed train that runs between Delhi and Agra in India.
•It operates at a speed of 160 km/h (99 mph) and is the fastest train in India.
•The train will take a travel time of 100 minutes to cover 188 kilometres (117 mi) journey from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Agra Cantonment railway stations.
World T20 men and women teams of the tournament announced by – ICC
On 4 April 2016, The ICC announced the teams of the tournament for the men’s and women’s ICC World Twenty20 2016 that finished at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 3 April 2016.
The teams were chosen under chairmanship of Geoff Allardice, ICC General Manager – Cricket.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was chosen as captain of the men’s side while Stafanie Taylor of the West Indies was named to lead the women’s line-up.

Who is elevated as a new Managing Director of GoAir - Wolfgang Prock-Schauer
GoAir has elevated its present chief executive officer (CEO) Wolfgang Prock-Schauer as the managing director.
Wolfgang Prock-Schauer will now become a member of the company's board, after this elevation. He has to handle two big responsibilities of both CEO & Managing Director.
Know About GoAir –
•GoAir is an Indian Low cost carrier based in Mumbai. It commenced operations in November 2005. It is the aviation foray of the Wadia Group.
• As of January 2014, it is the fifth largest airline in India by market share. It operates domestic passenger services to 22 cities with over 140 daily flights and approximately 975 weekly flights. Its hubs are at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
India’s first Aadhar enabled ATM launched by which bank – DCB Bank
On 3 April 2016, DCB Bank launched an Aadhaar-based ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) usage facility wherein a customer can transact using his biometric details instead of the PIN. The step is first of its kind in India.
This ATM is all set to accept Aadhaar number and Aadhaar fingerprint (biometric) instead of ATM/Debit Card and PIN to dispense cash from the bank account. It is a Cardless and PIN less ATM.
