Draft rules on sale of drugs by e-pharmacies released by - Health Ministry
The Union Health Ministry released draft rules on sale of drugs by e-pharmacies on 1st September 2018 to regulate online sale of medicines across the nation. The draft rules on "sale of drugs by e-pharmacy" state that no person will be distributing or selling or stocking or exhibiting or offering
for sale of drugs through e-pharmacy portal unless registered.This draft has been issued with an aim to provide patients access to genuine drugs from authentic online portals.
Important Highlights
- The rules state that any person intending to conduct the business of e-pharmacy has to apply for the registration grant to the Central Licensing Authority through the online portal of the Central Government.
- Registration of e-pharmacy application will have to be accompanied by a sum of Rs 50,000.
- The e-pharmacy holder also need adhere to provisions of the Information Technology Act.
- The rules also propose that those who want to do online pharmacy will have to register with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, the India's apex drug regulator and central licensing authority.
- The rules also stated that the premises from where the e-pharmacy business is conducted shall be inspected, every two years, by a team of officers authorised by the Central Licensing Authority, with or without the experts in the relevant field or the officers authorised by the concerned State Licensing Authority.
- The rules also stated that the registration issued to any person for e-pharmacy will be valid for a period of three years only from the date of its issuance and a renewal of registration will have to be done in case they want to continue further.
Detailed Indian clothing records best-ever performance at - Asian Games 2018
India with a total of 69 medals including 15 gold recorded its best-ever performance in the history of Asian Games in the 2018 edition held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia. India has maintained its top-10 rank overall by finishing eighth yet again. Before this, the previous highest medal tally for India was at the 2010 edition in Guangzhou, China where they had finished 6th with 14 gold, 17 silver and 34 bronze medals.
Important Highlights
- While there were some commendable performances and surprise medals in many sporting categories in the 2018 Asian Games, the athletic contingent stood out the most, as it produced one of its best results as on date.
- Alongwith that the track and field events remained the most productive area for India, as they produced 7 out of the total 15 gold medals.
- The top performers in Athletics included Dutee Chand, Neeraj Chopra,Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Swapna Barman, Arpinder Singh,Jinson Johnson and Hima Das.
- The top performers in other sports included Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan and Ankita Raina in tennis, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in badminton, men’s quadruple sculls team in rowing, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat in wrestling, Rahi Sarnobat, Saurabh Chaudhary and Shardul Vihan in shooting, Fouaad Mirza in equestrian, Amit Panghal in boxing and Pranab Bardhan in bridge event as well.

Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Suresh Prabhu launched Coffee Connect mobile app on 4th September 2018 and digital mobile extension services ‘Coffee KrishiTharanga’ for coffee stakeholders.

- The ‘Coffee Connect’ mobile app has been developed to ease the field work functionaries and to improve the work efficiency.
- The application will be providing solution by harnessing the power of mobility comprising the latest technology in easing the whole process of the field activities like digitisation of Coffee Growers & Estates with Geo Tagging and collecting the Plantation details.
- It will also be helping to boost transparency in the activities of the extension officers and officials, transparency in subsidy disbursement and real time report generation.
International Women Entrepreneurs Summit started in Kathmandu on - 3rd September 2018
The International Women Entrepreneurs Summit 2018 was inaugurated by the Nepal Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun in Kathmand which is the capital of Nepal on 3rd September 2018. Speaking on the occasion, Nepal’s Vice President emphasised upon empowering women in all areas including political, social and economic. He also expressed concern towards increasing violence against women and highlighted the need for public efforts to remove it.
The South Asian Women Development Forum will be organising this three day event. It is expected to witness participation from delegates belonging to 27 countries including China and the SAARC, African,ASEAN, EU and Arab countries.
CJI Dipak Misra recommended Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor on - 4th September 2018
Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra recommended the name of Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India on 4th September 2018.
This recommendation will now be processed and forwarded to the President who will be issueing the warrant of appointment. CJI Misra retires on 2nd October 2018. He was sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India (CJI) on 28th August 2017.More about Justice Ranjan Gogoi
- He joined the Bar in 1978.
- In February 2001,he was appointed as Permanent Judge where he practiced mainly in the Gauhati High Court.
- He was transferred to Punjab & Haryana High Court on 9th September 2010 and was elevated as Chief Justice of the High Court on 12th February 2011.
- He was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on 23rd April 2012.
- Justice Gogoi headed the bench that directed the government to set up special courts to fasttrack cases against politicians.
- He headed another bench which is currently monitoring the case of Assam’s National Register of Citizens intending to identify illegal migrants in the state.
International Aviation Summit begins in Delhi on - 4th September 2018
The International Aviation Summit started in New Delhi, India on 4th September 2018. The seminar has been jointly organised by the Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation and International Air Transport Association.
While speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu has revealed that the Civil Aviation Ministry is coming up with Vision 2035 under which it plans to build 100 new airports across India in the next 10-15 years with an investment of USD 60 billion and address the major issues concerning aviation industry such as taxation, airport infrastructure and use of technology.
The airports will also be constructed through a public-private partnership Indian economy is growing to USD 10 trillion by 2035 and aviation sector will also be one of the major contributors to that growth.
Other than this, the Minister along with the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha congratulated the aviation fraternity to achieve the unique milestone of 50 months of double-digit growth in the Indian Aviation sector.
National Nutrition Month observed across India to fight - Malnutrition
The National Nutrition Month is being celebrated across the nation in September to mark the fight against malnutrition. During this month, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development will be organising various programs to spread broad awareness on issues related to malnutrition like under-nutrition, anaemia, stunting and low birth weight in children.
Important Focus
- The month will be focussing on adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers to remove the deficiencies prevailing in the Health sector.
- The WCD ministry is also trying to reach about 11 crore women and children during this month through various grass-root activities with the convergence of different ministries.
