Union Government introduced four new vaccines as a part of Universal Immunization Programme
On 3rd July 2014, Union Government introduced four new vaccines as part of India's Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). These include vaccines against rotavirus, rubella and polio (injectable), along with an adult vaccine against Japanese encephalitis. The adult vaccine against Japanese encephalitis will be introduced in districts with high levels of the disease (in 179 endemic districts in 9 states).
The aim of introduction of these lifesaving vaccines is to ensure that the benefits of vaccination reach to all sections of the society, regardless of social and economic status.
The decision to introduce new vaccines was announced by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India after accepting the recommendations made by the National Technical Advisory Group of India (NTAGI).

ADB to provide equity investment of 50 million US dollars to ReNew Power and approved 300 million US dollar loan for Assam's power sector
Asian Development Bank has made financial commitment of $ 350 million in loan and equity investment for two energy projects in India, which is important national Current Affairs.
The ADB has approved a multi-tranche loan facility of $ 300 million to help India's Assam state continue its drive to eliminate power sector inefficiencies that are hurting consumers and the economy and In an equity investment of $ 50 million in a renewable energy company ReNew Power Ventures Private Ltd, it would help India meet clean energy targets.
The three tranches $ 300 million loan facility will fund generation and distribution upgrades as well as contribution of a 120-megawatt hydro power plant.
Multiple entry visas to Indians issued by Japan
On 3rd July 2014, Japan issued multiple entry visas for short term stay to Indians. These visas will allow Indian visitors to spend up to 15 days on a visit and the visas are likely to be valid for three years.
The multiple entry visas will be issued at the Japanese diplomatic missions in India and also at all the Japanese embassies and Consulate Generals overseas. The decision will increase the number of Indian tourists to Japan and improve convenience in business activities and further development of bilateral exchanges between the two countries.
The decision was taken following the announcement by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe when he visited here this January that his ''government would introduce multiple entry visas based on the recognition that enhancement of people to people exchanges is important to further broaden relations between Japan and India" .
Japanese Cabinet adopted resolution to end 60 years of pacifism
Japan took a historic step away from its post-war pacifism by ending a ban that has kept the military from fighting abroad since 1945, which is importnat among international Current Affairs.
This will widen Japan's military options by ending the ban on exercising "collective self-defense", or aiding a friendly country under attack.
The Cabinet resolution laid down certain scopes or minimum degree under which Japan can exercise force and they are:
- Threat to the existence of the Japanese State
- In case there is a clear danger to the people’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness could be subverted and there is no appropriate alternative
- Defensive support to the US forces under attack in vicinity of Japan
- Co-operating military with US forces to safeguard the citizens of Japan at risk overseas
- During the time of war, it will participate in minesweeping activities
- Deployment of the Japanese forces to protect access to energy supplies or critically important sea-lanes of communication vital for Japan’s survival
Americans Celebrate 238th Anniversary of Nation's Independence
Americans across the United States are celebrating the 238th anniversary of their country's independence from Britain. It is the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776. Patriotic displays and family events are organized throughout the United States.
In 1775, people in New England began fighting the British for their independence. On July 2, 1776, the Congress secretly voted for independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was first published two days later on July 4, 1776. The first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was on July 8, 1776.
