    Government launched what in 500 cities - Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2017

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Ministry of Urban Development has launched Swachh Survekshan 2017 to rank 500 cities/towns across the country on cleanliness with a population of about 1 lakh and above.

    However, the survey will be conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in a bid to encourage competition to improve sanitation.

    RBI appointed whom as an Executive Director - Surekha Marandi

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 3rd January 2017 The Reserve Bank announced Surekha Marandi as an Executive Director. She will now look after financial inclusion, among other departments.

    Surekha Marandi took charges and also replaces U S Paliwal, who retired on 31st December, 2016. 

    Please Note: As Executive Director,  Marandi will look after Consumer Education and Protection Department, Financial Inclusion and Development Department and Secretary’s Department, the central bank said in a notification.

    104th Indian Science Congress inaugurated in – Tirupati

    Among Important National Current Affairs, on 3rd January 2017 Indian Science Congress has inaugurated the 104th Indian Science Congress at Tarakarama Stadium of Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. 

    However, the congress will conclude on 7th January, 2017.

    Also, it is the second time that Tirupati is hosting the Indian Science Congress. 

    The main theme of the 104th Indian Science Congress is – ‘Science and Technology for National Development.

    Government approved new projects under Namami Gange for - Haridwar and Varanasi

    Among Important National Current Affairs, The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved new projects, which is under Namami Gange programme in Haridwar (Uttarakhand) and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh). 

    However in Haridwar, about 68 MLD sewage treatment plants (STP) and 14 MLD STP in Sarai was with Central government funding and also under Hybrid Annuity based PPP mode. 

    Besides this, 50 MLD sewage treatment plant at Ramana in Varana under Hybrid Annuity-based PPP mode was also approved.
