IISER Researchers develop what to scoop out marine oil spills – Gelator
Among Important National Current Affairs, Researchers from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram have developed a compound named gelator to scoop out marine oil spills.
However, they had produced gelators using glucose as a starting material and through several other chemical reactions.
The gelator molecule is mainly a partly hydrophilic and partly hydrophobic. The hydrophilic part helps in self-assembling to form gelator fibres, whereas the hydrophobic part is responsible for its diffusion into oil layer.
Who has been re-elected as Prime Minister of Spain - Mariano Rajoy
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 29th October 2016 Mariano Rajoy was re-elected as the Prime Minister of Spain after winning a parliamentary vote.
However, about 170 lawmakers voted for him, 111 against and 68 abstained.
Now with this, Spain has its first fully functioning government since December 2015, when a general election left no party with a majority.
MoU signed for enabling online submission of applications under - PMAY
Among Important National Current Affairs, The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has inked MoU with Common Services Centre (CSC), a SPV of Ministry of Information Technology for enabling online submission of applications under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
However, the MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Minister for IT Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Who has been appointed as CEO of IBRD & IDA of World Bank - Kristalina Georgieva
Among Important International Current Affairs, on 2nd November 2016 Kristalina Georgieva has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group with effect from January 2017.
However, her appointment was confirmed by the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim. IBRD and IDA are also the lending arms of the World Bank.
Sports Ministry tells whom to identify 2020 Olympics Medal Prospects – NSFs
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 2nd November 2016 The Union Sports Ministry directed the National Sports Federations (NSFs) to shortlist names of potential medalists along with their support staff for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
However, they have also been asked to submit the list by 30 November 2016.
Here, the direction was approved by the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel.
PM Modi inaugurated Asian Ministerial Conference on - Disaster Risk Reduction
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 3rd November 2016 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in New Delhi.
Main aim of the 3-day conference is to find ways for better management of disaster risk.
However, the conference will come out with a declaration consolidating the political commitment of governments towards preventing and reducing risk as well as strengthening resilience by accelerating implementation.
