President Confers Gallantry and Distinguished Service Awards
The President and Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces Shri Pranab Mukherjee conferred three Kirti Chakras and nine Shaurya Chakras to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty at a solemn ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The President also conferred thirteen Param Vishisht Seva Medals, three Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, four Bar to Ati Vishisht Seva Medals and twenty three Ati Vishisht Seva Medals to senior officers of the Armed Forces for distinguished service of an exceptional order. Polavaram Project approved by Union Cabinet
On 1st May 2014, The Union Cabinet approved the proposal for setting up of the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) which will be set up for the execution of the Polavaram irrigation project.
The constitution of the Centrally-funded PPA and its governing body was in accordance with the section 90 of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. The project cost originally estimated at 10151 crore rupees rose to 16010 crore rupees.
Important to note :
The Polavaram Project Authority would be an autonomous body under the chairmanship of a Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be appointed by the Centre.
World Press Freedom Day observed across the world
On 3rd May 2014, World Press Freedom Day was observed across the globe. The theme of 2014 World Press Freedom Day is: Media Freedom for a Better Future: Shaping the post-2015 Development Agenda.
UNESCO General Conference held in Windhoek, Namibia on 3 May 1991 and endorsed the principles of press freedom. It is known as Windhoek Declaration. Annually the date is celebrated globally and serves as reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom.
Trap Shooter Manavjit Sandhu ranked at third spot in ISSF World Ranking
Indian trap shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu has reached the third spot in the latest world rankings on Thursday. Sandhu has 1228 rating points. Russian Alexey Alipov (1437) and Italian Giovanni Pellielo (1298) are ahead of him in the list.
