Among the important National Current Affairs, On 2nd March 2016, Eminent poet Dr Bhagwati Lal Vyas was chosen for the 2015 Bihari Puraskar for his anthology of Rajasthani poems 'Katha Sun Aawe Hai Sabad'.

About the Bihari Puraskar

• In the year 1991, KK Birla Foundation instituted this award after the famous Hindi poet Bihari
• The award is presented annually to the Rajasthani writers for their literary works in Rajasthani or Hindi.

Forbes list of World Billionaires 2016 released

Among the important International Current Affairs, On 1st March 2016, Forbes list of World Billionaires 2016 was released. As compared to 1826 billionaires in 2015, Forbes found 1810 billionaires in 2016 in its 30th annual guide to the world’s richest.

For the 3rd ime in a row, Bill Gates remained as the richest person in the world with a net worth of 75 billion US dollars.

India is at the fourth position in highest number of billionaires. The United States was first followed by China and Germany.

World Wildlife Day observed on - 3rd March 

Among the important International Current Affairs, On 3rd March 2016, World Wildlife Day was observed across the world with the theme “The future of wildlife is in our hands”. The main focus on this year is on African and Asian elephants.

The day is an opportunity to celebrate varied forms of wild fauna and flora. It also reminds us of the urgent need to take action against wildlife crime.

The theme for the 2016 also strengthen the inseparable link between sustainable development, people and wildlife.

This date in 1973, is the day of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). 

Which state has became the first to launch HPV vaccine as public health programme in schools - Delhi

Among the important National Current Affairs, On 29th February 2016, the first state in the country to launch the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a public health programme for school children is Delhi.

The vaccine helps to protects people against the group of 150-odd HPVs, some of which can cause cervical cancer.

About Human Papillomavirus

• Human papillomavirus is a DNA virus which can infect humans.
• HPV16 and HPV18 are known to cause around 70% of cervical cancer patients.
• Over 170 types of HPV are identified by the researchers out of which more than 40 are typically transmitted through sexual contact.

Name the author of "Who was Shivaji?" - Govind Pansare

In First week of march 2016, Book titled “Who was Shivaji?” authored by Govind Pansare came into focus because of Shiv Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which was celebrated across Maharashtra on 19th February 2016.

Anirudh Deshpande has written the introduction of the book while afterword was written by Prabhat Patnaik.

Who has been appointed as MD and CEO of MCX - Mrugank Paranjape

Among the important appointments, On 29th February 2016, the country's largest commodity exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX) appointed Mrugank Paranjape as its Chief Executive Office (CEO) and Managing Director (MD).
