    KYC rules for Non-Banking Financial Companies relaxed by RBI

    On 2nd January 2015, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) relaxed Know Your Customers (KYC) rules for Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC). These KYC rules were ammended by RBI due to practical difficulties and constraints to implement them.

    KYC exercise will be required to be done in three ways by NBFC's which are following : 

    • At least in every 2 years for high-risk individuals and entities,
    • At least in every 8 years for medium risk individuals and entities,
    • At least in every 10 years for low risk individuals and entities.

    North Sri Lankan Jaffna-Kankasanthurai rail track inaugurated

    On 2nd January 2015, Jaffna-Kankasanthurai rail track in North Sri Lanka which is 18 KM long was inaugurated by Sri Lanka's Transport Minister Kumara Welgama. This news was important to tell you because this has been restored by Indian Railway's construction company (IRCON).

    Former ISRO Chairman V R Gowarikar passed away

    On 2nd January 2015, Former Chairman of ISRO and Senior Scientist Vasant Ranchhod Gowarikar passed away in Pune. He was 82 years old. He was a part of scientists who initiated India's satellite research programme and he was also Scientific Advisor to late Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao between 1991 and 1993.

    He was popularly known as Father of the Indian Monsoon Model, as he was the first scientist to develop first indigenous weather forecasting model that predicted monsoon correctly.

    He was conferred with many prestigious awards including Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2008 and The Fie Foundation Award.

    Bezbaruah panel report on safety of North East people accepted by Govt

    On 2nd January 2015, Bezbaruah panel report on safety of North East people was accepted by Union Govt. As per Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh these recommendations will be implemented in next 6 months. 

    Bezbaruah committee consisted of five members under the chairmanship of M P Bezbaruah in February 2014 to look into the concerns of the people of the North East living in other parts of the country. This committee was constituted after the killing of Nido Tania who was a student  from Arunachal Pradesh. 

    Kiran Bhai Vadodaria elected as new president of Indian Newspaper Society

    On 2nd January 2015, Kiran Bhai Vadodaria was elected as new President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2014-15. Kiran Bhai Vadodaria is the Chairman and Managing Director of Sambhaav Metro (A Gujarati newspaper).

    He succeeded Ravindra Kumar. Appointment of Kiran Bhai Vadodaria was announced at the 75th annual general meeting of INS in New Delhi.

    Somesh Sharma of Rastradoot was elected as Vice President and PV Chandran of Grihalakshmi was elected as Deputy President.
