Girraj Prasad Gupta takes over as the Controller General of Accounts from - 1st August 2019 onwards
Girraj Prasad Gupta took over as Controller General of Accounts, Department of Expenditure, Union Ministry of Finance with effect from 1st August 2019. He is 1983 batched Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer. He is highly credited for his work in development & implementation of Public Financial Management System, which is a backbone IT infrastructure for Direct Benefit Transfer & other financial management modules in Central Government.
Controller General of Accounts- Controller General of Accounts is Principal Accounting Adviser to Government of India. It works
under Department of Expenditure, Union Ministry of Finance. - Controller General of Accounts leads the organisation & is answerable for administering this
system. - It is answerable for establishing & maintaining a technically sound Management Accounting
System. - Controller General of Accounts office makes monthly as well as yearly analysis of expenditure, revenues, borrowings & various fiscal indicators for Union Government.
- It makes Annual Appropriation Accounts (Civil) & Union Finance Accounts which are acquiesced to Parliament under Article 150 of Constitution.
1st time following Partition, ‘Nagar Kirtan’ arrives from Pakistan to India in - Amritsar
For 1st time following Independence, ‘Nagar Kirtan’ carrying Guru Granth Sahib which was taken out from Nankana Sahib district of Punjab province of Pakistan, reached at Attari in Amritsar, India. Nagar Kirtan is a religious procession that will culminate at Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district of Punjab in India following passing via various cities and towns.
This procession by devotees is to highlight 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak
Dev founder of Sikhism.
Key Highlights- Nagar Kirtan carrying holy Guru Granth Sahib, in which about 500 Sikh devotees took part
crossed over to India from Pakistan through the land transit route of Attari border. - The programme was planed by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, a top religious body
of the Sikhs with support from both Indian and Pakistani authorities. - The large parade of devotees followed religious procession from Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in
Pakistan to Wagah border amongst a thick security cover. Gurdwara Nankana Sahib is birthplace
of Guru Nanak Dev.
One Nation-one Ration Card Scheme implemented on pilot basis from - 1st August 2019
In a major boost to national food security Government of India released One Nation-One Ration
Card scheme on pilot basis in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Gujarat. The pilot project is effective from 1st August 2019. ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme pursues to permit
portability of food security advantages.
One Nation-One Ration Card schemeFamilies who have ration cards can purchase subsidized rice and wheat from any ration shop in
these states but their ration cards should be connected with Aadhar Number to avail this service.
Implementation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
White Ration Card holders in Telangana have been receiving compactness provision which
enables them to purchase their subsidized rice and other food grains from any Fair Price Shop in
state. Now under One Nation One Ration Card scheme which has come into force in Telangana and
Andhra Pradesh same provision can be utilized anywhere in 2 states now through Point of State
machines.
Early Trial Run
In last week of July Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation initiated a trial run of project last week
with consumers from Andhra Pradesh drawing their merchandises from fair price shop in
Hyderabad. According to officials, 2.82 crore consumers had profited with ration portability
introduced in Telangana in 2018.
