    India International Science Festival 2017 to be held in Chennai between - 13th October 2017 and 16th October 2017

    The 3rd edition of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2017 will be held in Chennai during from 13th October 2017 to 16th October 2017.
    The Festival will going to be held at various venues, which will be including Anna University, National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Structural
    Engineering Research Centre (SERC) and IIT-Madras. The Union Ministry of Science & Technology and Union Ministry of Earth Sciences and Vijnana Bharati jointly organised The India International Science Festival.

    Key Highlights of the festival

    • The major motto behind IISF 2017 is to instil scientific temper among the masses and showcasing India’s contribution in the field of science and technology over the years.
    • It is aiming to build a strategy for rural India through the advancement of Science and Technology.
    • The festival also intends to make innovation beneficial for the people and to develop technology which is affordable to the masses.
    • In addition to that, India has declared 2010-20 as the ‘Decade of Innovation’.

    Who has been appointed as first woman chief proctor of BHU ? - Royana Singh

    The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) appointed Royana Singh as the first woman Chief Proctor of the institution on 28th September 2017 after the approval of Vice Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi.
    She would be succeeding O.N. Singh, who resigned on 26th September taking "moral responsibility" for the recent incidents of violence on students inside the University premises.
    Before this appointment, Royana served as an assistant professor at the Institute of Medical Science in Anatomy Department.

    Besides being the first woman ever to hold the post in the university’s history, Royana also heads the university’s women grievance cell. While Speaking on her new responsibility, Singh stated that she has a zero-tolerance approach towards eve-teasing and will be ensuring nothing of the sort is repeated on campus. “I will be in touch with wardens and teachers and wardens will be told to constantly interact with students so that we get to know the problem at the beginning only. But there is no gender discrimination on campus.  I can say this with certainty,” she was quoted saying.

    International Translation Day 2017 observed globally on - 30th September 2017

    The International Translation Day was observed for the first time on 30th September 2017. The Day was celebrated with an aim to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role to bring nations together, facilitating dialogue, contributes to the development and strengthens world peace & security.

    The Day also recognises transposition of a literary or scientific work from one language to another as indispensable to preserve clarity, climate and productivity in International Public Communication.

    To devise safety mechanisms for rail network - Indian Railways

    Indian Railways would work with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to devise safety mechanisms to make travel by trains safer.
    The Railway Minister Piyush Goyal shared this information, who stated that he had met ISRO Chairman A S Kiran Kumar in this context. He further added that the Indian Railways was working along with RailTel to explore the use of space technology for safety in the railway network.
    Other than this, the Minister said that modern technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning would be affecting a change in the working environment and India has the opportunity to look at what is latest across the globe and bringing it to the country.
    He also said that round the clock access to connectivity and electricity is the dream of billions of Indians and the government is making efforts in order to achieve it.
