    Flash floods in Baro Hills Assam caused by - Heavy Rainfall

    Flash floods triggered by heavy rains over Garo Hills in Meghalaya have hit more 70 thousand population and inundated 64 villages in South Salmara and Goalpara districts, two districts of western Assam.
    Other than these two border districts, floods have also resumed in districts of Lakhimpur, Hojai and Karbi Anglong — where the combined affected population is above 8,000.
    According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 41,000 people have been affected in Goalpara district and another 29,000 have been hit in South Salmara district. Near close to 3,000 have been affected in Lakhimpur district in the easternmost part of the state, 1,455 in Hojai and 3,343 in Karbi Anglong in central Assam.

    The worst hit was Balijana revenue circle was in Goalpara district, where 23,000 people have been hit. The other two affected circles in the district were Matia  and Lakhipur. In South Salmara district, the effect had been most severe in Mankachar revenue circle, which is bound by Bangladesh on the south across the Brahmaputra river.
    Civic authorities have set up 16 relief camps in Goalpara district for the affected people, where 8,694 persons have taken shelter after being displaced from their homes.

    There have been no reports of any human casualty from any affected place so far. But, the crop area of nearly 300 hectare have been damaged by these flash floods in the two border districts besides affecting more than 10,000 small and big animals along  with 13,000 poultry in South Salmara district and above 4,000 animals in Goalpara district.
    Two bridges in Lakhipur and Matia revenue circles in Goalpara district have also been damaged, the ASDMA stated. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the deputy commissioners of the flood-affected districts to intensify the relief and rescue operations and to ensure enough relief 
    material for the marooned people and ensure availability of all the required items in flood relief camps, stated by the CM's office.
    The CM has directed the ASDMA to maintain close coordination with district administrations and extend their all support to tide over the situation.

    Las Palmas beaten by Barcelona in - Empty Nou Camp

    Barcelona's Lionel Messi scored twice in a 3-0 win over Las Palmas in a Liga match played without fans following clashes between police and voters in Catalonia over a banned independence referendum on 1st October 2017. Real Madrid earned their first home league victory of the season by beating Espanyol 2-0 with a goal in each half by midfielder Isco, in the late game while Valencia moved up to third in the standings after beating visitors Athletic Bilbao 3-2.
    League leaders Barca tried to postpone their game, but the request was turned down by La Liga and the Catalan club announced 25 minutes before kickoff that the game would going to be played behind closed doors. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said the stadium was closed to show opposition to police violence against voters in Catalonia's independence  referendum, which was banned by the national government, but not over safety concerns.

     Spanish riot police on burst into polling stations across Catalonia to try to halt the referendum on a split from Spain and Catalan officials said above 800 people were injured in the crackdown 1st October 2017.
    Barca's Sergio Busquets scored for the first time in the league in three seasons to give the hosts the lead in the 49th minute, leaping to head in a curling corner from Messi.
    Argentine Messi struck his 10th league goal of the season to double Barca's advantage in the 70th.
    Messi then latched onto a pass from fellow forward Luis Suarez to pounce again in the 77th by sealing Barca's seventh straight domestic league win this season and maintaining their 100 percent start in the Champions League and La Liga.
    Barcelona led the standings on 21 points, five clear of Sevilla in second, while Real are fifth on 14. Valencia, with 15, climbed above Atletico Madrid on the goal difference.
