India’s First Advanced Forensic Lab dedicated to women related cases to come up in - Chandigarh
Foundation of “Sakhi Suraksha Advanced DNA Forensic Laboratory” was placed in the Central Forensic Science Lab campus, Chandigarh. It is India’s 1st advanced forensic lab devoted for crimes connected to women for in-time deliver justice.
Key Points- The advanced lab at par with global standards will help to address gap in forensic DNA analysis of incomplete sexual assault cases in the nation.
- The laboratory has been formed as model forensic lab and will be imitation in other parts of the nation.
- Five extra such advanced forensic labs will come up in Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, Pune and Bhopal in the upcoming three months bringing total least annual handling capacity of labs to 50000 cases.
- The laboratories in Chennai and Mumbai will be formed with capital from Ministry of Women and Child Development, while outstanding three laboratories would be formed with money by Ministry of Home Affairs.
Units of Sakhi Suraksha Advanced DNA Forensic Laboratory - There are 4 units i.e. sexual assault and homicide unit, human identification unit, paternity
unit, and mitochondrial unit. Apart from Homicide and Sexual Assault Unit, other 3 units are
interconnected. They will work to study cases related to crime against females. - Paternity Uni will be helping in solving cases related to criminal parenthood, gender selection and child substitution in hospitals.
- Human Identification Unit will play crucial role to resolve cases of missing person/children.
Mitochondrial Unit will conduct mitochondrial-DNA analysis in such cases where regular DNA analysis is not possible due to highly dishonoured samples. It can also be utilised to well explore family relationships.
Online Analytical Tool to monitor foreign contributions under FCRA launched by - Government
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs released an Online Analytical Tool to enable closer monitoring of
flow and usage of foreign contributions acknowledged by various firms registered/permitted under
Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. The web grounded tool will benefit to efficiently monitor
thousands of transactions undertaken by such firms and assist shareholders in Government to better
control acceptance and usage of overseas contributions.
Features of web-based tool- It permits decision-makers in numerous Government Departments to scrutinise source of overseas funds and their actual usage in India. It will deliver them capacity to take evidence-based and information motivated decisions for compliance of provisions of FCRA, 2010.
- It has analytical structures to conduct immense data mining and information exploration.
- It has been joined with FCRA listed entities bank accounts via Public Financial Management System for updating transactional information on a real-time basis.

Such firms have received overseas contributions worth Rupees 18,065 crores from overseas donors for various social, cultural, economic, educational and religious activities in 2016-17. Core industries register 4.7% growth in - April 2018
As per to index of 8 core industries published by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, 8 core infrastructure sectors raised by 4.7 percent higher in April 2018. It was obsessed by healthy performance in segments like coal, natural gas and cement.
Sector wise breakaway in April 2018
Coal production augmented by 2.6 percent.
Crude Oil production deteriorated by 0.8 percent.
Natural Gas production grown by 7.4 per cent.
Petroleum Refinery production grown by 2.7 percent.
Fertilizers production grown by 4.6 percent.
Steel production augmented by 3.5 percent.
Cement production grown by 16.6 percent.
Electricity generation grown by 2.2 percent.
