Kolkata Knight Riders won IPL 2014 for second time after defeating Kings XI Punjab
Kolkata Knight Riders won IPL 2014 for second time after defeating Kings XI Punjab. Final was held at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
From KXIP Wriddhiman Saha century in 49 balls helped them to get a score of 199. Batting second as chasers, KKR's Manish Pandey fuelled a match-winning 94 off 50 balls.
Captian of KKR was Gautam Gambhir and KXIP was George Bailey. This was the Season 7th of IPL, earlier Season 5th was also won by KKR.
Anand Mahindra - first Indian to be honoured with Harvard Medal
On 29th May 2014, Anand G. Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, became the first Indian to receive the prestigious Harvard Medal for his dedication, generosity and service to the University. The award was presented during the Harvard's 363rd Commencement at the annual meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association.
Mr. Mahindra is an alumnus of the University, graduating with Honours (Magna Cum Laude) from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1977. In 1981, he secured an MBA degree from the Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts.
Co-founder of the Harvard Business School (HBS) Association of India, Mr. Mahindra is also a founding member of the University's South Asia Institute (SAI), the HBS India Research Center, and the SAI field office in Mumbai, India. He is also a longtime member of the Asia Center Advisory Committee. He was invaluable to the HAA in the planning and execution of the Global Series conference in New Delhi in 2006.
Chandrashekhar Rao sworn-in as the First Chief Minister of Telengana - 29th State of India
As Telangana became 29th state of India. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti party supremo Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao being sworn in as first Chief Minister of Telangana.
E S L Narasimhan was sworn in as the Governor of Telangana. Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta administered the oath to Narasimhan, who will be the common Governor of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.
Important to Note :
- The presidential rule will be continued in the residual Andhra Pradesh until TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu takes oath as Chief Minister scheduled on 8th June 2014.
- Under the leadership of K Chandra Sekhar Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) was formed to demand for a separate state in 2001.
Peter Mutharika sworn-in as President of Malawi
Among the Current International Affairs, Former foreign minister Peter Mutharika has been sworn in as the new president of Malawi.
The 74-year-old Democratic Progressive Party leader Peter Mutharika on 31st May 2014 took the oath of office to become Malawi's new president, a day after the election committee declared him the winner of the contested May 20 elections. Vice President Saulos Chilima was sworn into office in the same ceremony before a chief justice.
Salvador Sanchez Ceren sworn-in as the President of El Salvador
On 1st June 2014, Former left wing rebel leader Salvador Sanchez Ceren was sworn-in as the President of El Salvador. Sanchez of Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front party (FMLN) is the first former guerrilla commander to lead the Central American country, which is also a news among important international Current Affairs.
Earlier in a run-off vote held on 9 March 2014, he defeated the conservative candidate, Norman Quijano by 0.2 percent. His party FMLN became a political party in 1992 after peace accords.
Salvador Sanchez Ceren will succeed outgoing Mauricio Funes, who served the country as President from 2009 to 2014. Sanchez under Funes government served the country as the Vice-President.
