Who is named as President of Microsoft India - Anant Maheshwari
Among Important National Current Affairs, on 1st August 2016, Anant Maheshwari was named as the President of Microsoft India by the parent company Microsoft Inc. Maheshwari will take the responsibility of Bhaskar Pramanik, who will retire in March 2017.
As a president, Maheshwari will be seen handling all the responsibilities, including Microsoft’s product, service, and support offerings across India.
Know About Anant Maheshwari –
• Anant Maheshwari, presently working as the President of Honeywell India, which is a Fortune 100 company.
• However, at Honeywell, Maheshwari was responsible for the continued growth of India operations across all its three strategic business groups: aerospace, automation and control solutions (ACS).
Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016 passed by - Parliament
On 1st July 2016, Rajya Sabha finally passed the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016 by voice vote. This Bill seeks to amend the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
However, it also seeks to replace the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016. This Bill states that its provisions will come in to force from 24 May 2016.
Although, on 19th July 2016 the bill was passed in Lok Sabha after being introduced by Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda on the same day. Now it will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for his nod.
A book titled R D Burmania: Panchamemoirs authored by Chaitanya Padukone released
Among Important Entertainment Current Affairs, in July 2016 a book titled R D Burmania: Panchamemoirs authored by Chaitanya Padukone was released. This book throws light on the legendary musician Rahul Dev Burman, whose cabaret tunes still reverberate at pubs and discotheques.
This book claims that Burman hated composing such songs and even believed that the genre was just a passing fad.
The book also chimes a tribute that strings together amazing, amusing and fascinating anecdotes, incidents and idiosyncrasies as well as rare, startling photographs while unraveling the mystique behind Bollywood's most adored composer-singer RD Burman.
2016 PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grants wins by - Anita Gopalan
On 25th July 2016, Translator and artist Anita Gopalan has been awarded with the 2016 PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grants for her English translation of Hindi novel Simsim by Geet Chaturvedi.
However, Anita Gopalan is the second Indian translator, who has been selected for the grant.
In 2008, Simsim who is the lyrical award-winning novella was first published. It is also recognized for its groundbreaking contribution to contemporary Hindi fiction.
Simsim also focuses on four central characters and a decaying library sitting on prime Mumbai real estate. The book narrates the clash between two Indias, i.e. one old and traditional, and the other driven by consumerism and corporate greed.
Rani Singh Nair appointed as Chairman of – CBDT
IRS which means Senior Indian Revenue Service Officer Rani Singh Nair has been appointed as Chairperson (Chairman) of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Rani Singh’s appointment was confirmed by Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), which is headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rani Singh will be in office till October 31, 2016 and shall succeed then acting chairman Atulesh Jindal who retired on 30 July 2016.
