Legendary musician Dick Wagner passed away at 71
On 30th July 2014, the famous rock guitarist of Alice Cooper, Dick Wagner passed away. He died due to respiratory failure at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Centre in Arizona. He was 71 years old. He was also a songwriter and an author.
Dick Wagner, the Michigan-bred guitarist renowned for his work with Alice Cooper, the Frost, Lou Reed and others.
RBI canceled the Licence of The Vasavi Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd., Hyderabad
Among the Banking Current Affairs, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of The Vasavi Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd., Hyderabad (Telangana). The order has been made effective from the close of business as on July 14, 2014. The order was issued in view of the fact that the bank had ceased to be solvent, all efforts to revive had failed and the depositors were being inconvenienced by continued uncertainty.
The Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Telangana State has also been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator. On liquidation, every depositor will be entitled to repayment of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh only) from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) under the usual terms and conditions.
With the cancellation of licence and commencement of liquidation proceedings, the process of paying the depositors of The Vasavi Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd., Hyderabad (Telangana State), the amount insured as per the DICGC Act, 1961 will be set in motion subject to the terms and conditions of the Deposit Insurance Scheme.
Muzaffar Ali to get Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award
Noted filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, who had directed the Bollywood classic "Umrao Jaan", has been selected for Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award for his outstanding contribution towards the promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill, which is among important National Current Affairs.
Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award carries a citation and cash award of Rs 5 lakh. The decision of selecting Ali for the award was taken at a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award. This will be the 22nd edition of the Sadbhawna award and will be presented at Jawahar Bhawan on 20 August 2014 at a special ceremony.
Muzaffar Ali is also the recipient of Padma Shri in 2005.
East Bengal conferred Bharat Gaurav to Bachendri Pal
East Bengal club conferred its highest honour of merit, "Bharat Gaurav", to the first Indian woman mountaineer to scale Mount Everest, Bachendri Pal, in a glittering function at the Khudiram Indoor hall. She was given a cheque of 2 lakh rupees.
Defender Arnab Mondal, who played a prominent role in ensuring East Bengal's runner-up position in the I-League, was awarded the player of the year. The club also awarded former National referees Kalidas Mukherjee and Gopinath Pyne.
East Bengal constituted the Bharat Gaurav award in 2011, which was first awarded to legendary hockey player Leslie Claudius. Football Olympian Ahmed Khan and Asian Games gold medallist Arun Ghosh received the award in the next two years.
