On 28th March 2016, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu dedicated the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project to the people of the state.

It is located at Pattiseema village of Polavaram mandal in West Godavari. On 24th March 2016, the installation of all 24 pump sets was completed and it started functioning on a full-scale.

Features of Project

• To benefit farmers of Krishna and Guntur districts, it links the two major rivers of the state – Godavari and Krishna.
• Its main motive is to use Godavari’s flood waters for the stabilisation of Krishna delta region.

Name the first direct container flagged off from Krishnapatnam between India and Bangladesh - MV Harbour-1 Vessel

Among the important National Current Affairs, On 28th March 2016, The first direct container MV Harbour-1 Vessel between India and Bangladesh carrying cotton was flagged off from Krishnapatnam of Andhra Pradesh to Chittagong.

It was a part of a coastal shipping agreement to smoothen trade between the two countries.

Key Features of the Agreement

In November 2015, a standard operating procedure was signed between India and Bangladesh to move commercial cargo between the two countries. 

The vessels of both the countries upon entry shall be treated as domestic vessels and not foreign going vessels.

Customs documentation and other requirements will be reduced to the essential minimum by both the countries for the purpose of easier cargo movement.
