    High-level Olympic Committee constituted for 2020 Tokyo Games on - 12th July 2019

    Government has set up a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju to direct and strategies the groundwork for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2024 Paris Olympics. The 10 members committee was established on Friday.

    The high-level Olympic committee has been designed to ensure that the performance of the Indian athletes is completely optimised in both Olympic games and other multidisciplinary games. 
    Composition
    The High-level Olympic Committee encompasses Olympic medallists including ace tennis player Leander Paes and shooter Gagan Narang. The other members of the committee include prominent government and sports administrators including India Olympic Association President Narinder Batra, India Olympic Association Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Secretary of Department of Sports Radhey Shyam Julaniya, President of Indian Athletics Federation Adille Sumariwalla and Boxing Federation of India chief Ajay Singh.
    The High-level Olympic Committee will goal to deliver all possible support to potential and
    qualified athletes for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, enabling the logistical arrangements for
    the participation of the Indian athletes and making sure seamless acclimatisation and hospitable
    environment for the Indian contingent.
    Further, the committee would also shape a road map for the groundwork towards the 2024 Paris Olympics and then will incessantly review and advise course correction whenever mandatory. It will also be accountable for preparing a strategy for the bidding of multidisciplinary sporting games for the future purpose.

    CGF General Assembly meet withdrawn by - IOA

    The Indian Olympic Association pulled-out of the Commonwealth Games Federation general assembly meeting on Friday, to objection against the initiative of dropping shooting from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games roster.

    The Indian Olympic Association also withdrew its suggestion of secretary-general Rajeev Mehta for the election of regional vice-president (Asia) during the General Assembly and that of Namdev Shirgaonkar for a sports committee member. The Indian Olympic Association demonstrated its dissatisfaction in a letter addressed to the Commonwealth Games CEO David Grevemberg. The letter explained that the leadership of CGA India has taken the decision of removal of participation in the CGF general assembly to be organised in Kigali, Rwanda in September.

    The Indian Olympic Association letter further explained that the only edition of Commonwealth Games in Asia in the last 2 decades was hosted in India. However, they are bound to reflect on their standing within the Commonwealth movement in current times.
    There has been much ire and dissatisfaction by our shareholders on the prohibiting of shooting
    in the sports program of 2022 Commonwealth Games.

    The Commonwealth Games Federation left out shooting from the 2022 Birmingham Games in its Executive Board meeting past month. The federation, instead, suggested the inclusion of three new sports including beach volleyball (both men and women), women's T20 cricket and para-table tennis (both men and women).
    The decision has come as a huge blow to India, which had secured 16 medals in shooting out
    of the total 66 during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Besides Edinburgh Commonwealth Games 1970, shooting has been a part of every Commonwealth Games since 1966.

    Meryl Streep wins Tribute Actor award  by - TIFF 2019

    Veteran actor Meryl Streep will be presented with Tribute Actor award at 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. She will get award in person on 9th September 2019 during Toronto International Film Festival’s Tribute Gala, a festival fundraiser.     Who has sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka ? - B S Yeddyurappa

    State Bhartiya Janta Party President B.S. Yediyurappa aged 76, sworn-in as 31st CM of Karnataka by Governor Vajubhai Vala. His nomination comes 3 days after collapse of Congress- JD(S) government. He is buckle down take floor test on 31st July 2019 to demonstrate his majority.
    This is for 4th time Yediyurappa’s is taking oath as CM however he has never accomplished full
    term as Chief Minister.
    Key Highlights

    • Oath taking came following weeks of political drama in Karnataka state politics and legal battle
      activated by resignation of 15 rebel Congress and JDS Member of Legislative Assembly that headed
      to the fall of Congress-JD(S) alliance government headed by HD Kumaraswamy as CM.
    • He was the lone person to take oath and is expected to decide on members of his Cabinet after
      consulting party president Amit Shah.
    • CM BS Yediyurappa would call Karnataka assembly session for moving Motion of Confidence and
      passage of finance bill on 29th July and legislative council would start its proceedings on July 30th.
      Announcements
      Following a Cabinet meeting, he declared loan waiver of INR 100 crore borrowed by weavers
      before 31st March 2019.
      He also declared sops for farmers and weavers. It includes an extra sum of  rs 4000 in 2 instalments
      would be issued to farmers from State government under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman
      Nidhi, which will take sum advantage to rs 10000, including  rs 6000 from Centre.

    Who has been reappointed NAA Chief ? - Badri Narain Sharma

    Appointments Committee of Cabinet, led by PM Narendra Modi, has reappointed Badri Narain Sharma as chairman of National Anti-profiteering Authority for two years. BN Sharma a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Services officer from Rajasthan was due for retirement on August 2019.
