Who elected Ethiopia, Bolivia, Sweden and Kazakhstan as non-permanent UNSC members – UNGA
Among Important International Current Affairs, UNGA, which is also known as The United Nations General Assembly has elected Ethiopia, Bolivia, Sweden and Kazakhstan as the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
As these newly-elected countries will have a two-year term, which is starting from 1 January 2016 till 31 December 2018.
They will soon replace Spain, Malaysia, New Zealand, Angola and Venezuela.
However, the voting for these countries in the UNGA was conducted by secret ballot in which members of the UNGA had voted.
Who is appointed as deputy governor of RBI - NS Vishwanathan
Among Important National Current Affairs, NS Vishwanathan has been appointed by The Union Government as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
By the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, his appointment was approved.
Know About NS Vishwanathan –
• Earlier, Vishwanathan was an executive director in the RBI since April 2014. He was oversing banking and non-banking regulation departments.
• He had also served as Principal Chief General Manager in the Department of non-banking supervision at RBI.
Assam’s Majuli becomes India’s first - Island District
A proud news for the people of Assam as The Assam Government has granted district status to Majuli, a 400 square kilometres island in the Brahmaputra River.
After this, now it becomes India’s first island district.
Hence, decision in this regard was taken by the state cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati only.
Please Note: With this erosion-troubled Majuli island will become the 34th district of Assam. Earlier it was sub-division of Jorhat district.
Union Cabinet approves recommendations of - 7th Pay Commission
On 29 June 2016, Union Cabinet finally approved the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.
The salaries and arrears, which were effective from 1 January 2016, will be made applicable now.
The commission also recommended 23.55 percent hike in pay and allowances of government employees.
Here are the few approved recommendations -
• The minimum pay for government employees will be 18000 rupees per month.
• Whereas, the maximum pay is recommended to be 225000 rupees per month for Apex Scale and 250000 per month for Cabinet Secretary and others presently at the same pay level.
• The increase in pay will also be 16 percent, increase in allowances will be 63 percent and increase in pension will be 24 percent.
Which player won silver in ISSF World Cup - Sanjeev Rajput
Among Important Sports Current Affairs, on 28 June 2016 Sanjeev Rajput who is an India's Ace shooter clinched the silver medal for India in men's 50-metre rifle 3 position event of the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Ajerbaijan.
To grab this prestigious silver medal, Rajput shot 456.9 points. This was his third World Cup medal and first in five years.
After pistol ace Jitu Rai's silver winning effort in the men's 10m air pistol earlier in the competition, this was also India's second medal of the competition and of the same colour as well.
Croatia's Petar Gorsa won the gold medal with 457.5, while Hyeonjun Kim of Korea bagged the bronze after he shot 445.5.
Which bank approves $201.50 million for Technical Education Quality Improvement Project in India - World Bank
On 24 June 2016, The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved 201.50 million US dollars for Technical Education Quality Improvement Project III (TEQIP III) in India to improve the quality of engineering education in select Indian states.
The main objective of this project is to increase quality and equity in participating engineering education institutes and also to improve the efficiency of the engineering education system in focus states.
